David Karr is a beautiful soul with a heart of gold. He's in serious need of some support.

From David:
Dear Friends,
I’m not the best at asking for or accepting help from others, but I’m dealing with serious health issues that necessitate my doing so at this time. It’s a very vulnerable (and humbling) position I find myself in and I’ve been putting this off for a long time. Please consider reading  about my circumstances and request for help with an open mind and heart.

About my health…

I’ve been working and living with Diabetes type 1 for 34yrs. My symptoms over the  recent years, have worsened significantly. My vision has deteriorated to the point of becoming legally blind. As a result of the diabetes, I also have other health complications: neuropathy, which effects my hands, feet, legs and balance.  As well, I now have chronic kidney disease. I just found out I’m in danger of reaching stage 4 (out of 5). As you might imagine, I also battle with depression.

About my present circumstances…

Up until this past May, I worked for 7 years, refinishing furniture and decor items for a very successful company in Scottsdale. I had to give up my driver’s license in the spring of 2010, because of my vision loss. For years, I commuted back and forth from downtown Phoenix, rides from my younger brother Mikey andby way of public transportation. I’m a perfectionist and always try doing my very best. However, as my health and vision worsened, I found myself tripping into objects and dropping and breaking items more and more.  For the same reasons, I also sustained a few serious head injuries, resulting with my loss of balance.

This past May, I finally conceded and told my boss, “I can no longer work here, I’ve become a liability to you”. She responded, “It’s been going on for about 2 years David.” We talked, cried and finally with a deep hug and more tears, I left her office feeling lost, I've been unemployed since.

How I’m being proactive and how you can help…

My  Upcoming Art Show/Fundraiser
On November 15th in afternoon, there will be a special showing  and sale of my artwork. If you're interested and able to assist in anyway with the planning  and/or setup, please let me know. I'm excited to share my artwork  and get together with  some good people, both oid and new one's

I’ve put my ego aside and am now in the process of applying for financial assistance- both social security and disability. I’m not receiving any benefits yet and it could take up to the end of the year before any begin. I’ve also applied for food stamps and have been getting them for the past 3 months. It doesn't take care of all of my special dietary needs, but it’s helping defray the costs. I was recently accepted to The School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and enrolled in a beginner’s computer class. As well, I’m going to Rehab twice a week, to help with my balance.

Once I’m approved and begin receiving federal assistance, it should make a difference in helping me stay afloat. However, since my job loss and without benefits, I’ve become behind with my  living expenses. For the time being, this is why I need to ask for help. If you’re in the position to give a donation, I’d be so incredibly grateful. Any amount will help and no amount is too small.

As well, I am still able to take on small scale furniture refinishing jobs, as long as they can be brought to my location.
