Ride for West Pride is an annual bicycle ride from Temple’s main fire station to West VFD in memory of and to honor all those we lost on that fateful day 4-17-13 this years recipient will be Olivia Grace Cossey
Olivia was born January 22, 2018. She was born with a rare genetic kidney disease called Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease. This disease affects the function of the kidneys, liver, and the vessels of the heart and brain. Olivia had both kidneys removed just before the age of 2 mos due to the large size of the kidneys and uncontrolled blood pressure. She immediately started peritoneal dialysis within 24 hrs and continues home peritoneal dialysis done by her parents for 12-14 hrs a day. Olivia spent 120 days in the NICU at Medical City Dallas Children's Hospital, where they specialize in this type of disorder. Olivia is currently receiving home Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech therapy 4 days a week. Most of her nutrition is by her feeding tube and she receives numerous medications to help give her the vitamins and electrolytes she needs that her kidneys would normally provide.
Olivia's immune system is weakened and can get sick very easy which requires hospitalization each time.
At this time, Olivia has made it to the goal weight of 15 kg or 30 lbs to be referred to the transplant team at Medical City Hospital. Her application has been submitted and she is waiting for a meeting for evaluation to be determined if she can be placed on the transplant list. Her parents and family members are eagerly waiting to be tested to see if they can donate a kidney and give Olivia the gift of life!
All funds go directly to Olivia’s family to help with medical cost.
