Cleaned Out By The Cleaners

In September last year I somehow managed to tear my achilles tendon. After a couple of weeks of hobbling around I went to a GP who misdiagnosed the injury as gout and I then spent a couple more weeks following his erroneous advice while the condition worsened . Finally I succumbed to the pain and went to hospital where they confirmed that I had an achilles tear and put my leg in plaster. For a week I was bedridden, eating only 24 slices of cheese and drinking about 3 litres of water over the course of 8 days. On Sunday the 7th of October I managed to raise the alarm (my phone was in reach but flat) when my sister visited and after being extracted from my bed was transported back to hospital. Once in hospital I was diagnosed with keto acidosis, and spent the next fortnight on a multitude of IV and oral medications. Once I was stabilized my leg was removed from the cast and it was discovered to be badly infected (cellulitis) and I was in danger of losing my lower leg. After multiple surgeries and massive amounts of antbiotics I was fortunate to get the news that I would keep my leg. After I came off the IV meds I was put into a moonboot and moved to a rehab facility to undergo intensive physiotherapy. While in rehab the resident Social Worker decided that as I live alone, my home would have to be "de cluttered and cleaned" and I reluctantly agreed. Myself , the Social Worker and reps from an intermediary organisation and the cleaning company met and I clearly stated that only empty boxes and rubbish was to be removed, and only from 2 rooms (kitchen and master bedroom) and that I had to be in attendance to supervise exactly what was disposed off. The work was commenced on a monday morning just prior to Christmas and when I arrived work was well under way and the on site foreman informed me that due to oh&s regulations that I couldn't be on site. I stupidly trusted them to follow my instructions and returned to rehab. On the 27th of December I went home to stock the fridge and see if anything needed to be done prior to my discharge the following day. When I arrived I found that the cleaning company had ignored my instructions. They had removed and disposed of the bulk of my belongings, all of my furniture and whitegoods where gone (they graciously left my entertainment unit) along with many other smaller items and the carpet! Not only had they done that in the rooms I had specified but had completely emptied the entire house. I left in shock, returned to rehab, and later that night attempted suicide. On the 2nd of January I contacted the cleaning company who fobbed me off saying that the representative from the intermediary organisation and my Sister had given them permission to completely empty my home, leaving just a shell, a house, not my home. I have reported this to the Police who while being as helpful as possible have their hands tied as this is a civil matter. I am seeking legal advice in the hope that I can take all three parties to court and recieve adequate compensation to rebuild my life. On top of all this drama, I was made redundant around 16 months ago and now I'm trying to get a copy of my birth certificate to prove to Centrelink and my Superannuation company that I am who I am so I can recieve some money to get my birth certificate, but unfortunately I don't have enough I.D. to satisfy either organisation so I can recieve either a Centrelink benefit or the superannuation payout that I'm entitled to, in fact I no longer have enough I.D. to prove to Births Deaths and Marriages that I am who I am and get a copy of my birth certificate. Essentially I am a non person. Thats my story, I'm not really sure what I hope to get from starting this campaign, I'd love to get enough to either refurnish my home, or engage a Solicitor to sue the parties responsible for my current situation. Both would be fantastic, but I'd feel guilty if there was enough money donated to re furnish and then recieve enough from the legal action to do the same, I'd feel like I was profiting from the situation, all I can think of is that if you do donate to my cause please suggest an organisation who you'd like to see your donation go to if I'm successful in my legal action. Sorry for the length of my post, but I feel that if your willing to donate to my cause your entitled to know the full story. Thanks, Shane
