Open Heartfelt Appeal For Help

Donation protected
2018 was not the best year for our family. My wife had multiple strokes in March that was very difficult for us to get through and we’re obviously still dealing with her recovery and will continue to do so for some time.

November 19th I went to urgent care with pain in my shoulder that they thought was just a tear or muscle pull. During the exam they found that I had a heart murmur that they assumed I knew about but I did not.

Thanksgiving Day I went to ER after having a nearly 105 temp all day. They did a CT scan and xrays and couldn’t find anything and sent me home saying it was an early strain of the flu. On

December 1st I went to the ER again with extreme pain in my shoulder, back, and abdomen. CT scans this time revealed a blood clot in my spleen, and a bacterial infection.

While I was going to be in the hospital for a bit getting over this extreme pain they decided to do more tests including an echocardiogram to see the extent of the murmur.

The echocardiogram lead to a Transesophageal echocardiogram (not fun), and an angiogram, which revealed that my aortic valve was almost completely blocked and needed to be repaired/replaced.

On top of all this we also found that I had type 2 diabetes.

I spent 10 days in the hospital, and was sent home to finish recovery for my spleen.

Meanwhile I have to visit the hospital everyday for antibiotic IV treatment until the day of my heart surgery.

I will be having Open Heart Surgery to replace my aortic valve with a tissue valve. This surgery will take place the beginning of the year.

I’ll be in ICU after surgery and in the hospital for up to a week. After that at home recovery will be 3-4 months time. I do not know when I’ll be able to start work again and as a freelancer I have no disability from work to rely on. So we will not have any income from me for quite some time.

With the current bills from wife’s stroke, my 10 day hospital stay and my upcoming open heart surgery, we will be lucky to make it past January.

Our dog Jayne of 11 years also had to be put down a few weeks ago as well and a lot of our finances went to making him comfortable in his final days.

It’s very hard for me to ask for this kind of help, and we are doing everything we can to help ourselves but sadly we can’t get there on our own.

In the end we may very well need to declare medical bankruptcy to get through. 2018 has been a crummy year for us, the first part of 2019 won’t be much better. Hopefully it will get much better after my recovery.

Thank you for reading this, and even if you’re unable to help us financially sharing this campaign wherever you can would be very appreciated as well.
