I have been working with the City of Boston Parks Department for the past several weeks trying to get agreement on the location of the Tribute Bench for Michael. Unfortunately I was not able to get a Bench on Mt. Malta or even near there. The bench that the City Parks Department has agreed on is near the State House in an area called the "Liberty Mall". And since our cause is all about Liberty, I think it's a perfect location for a Tribute Bench dedicated to a man who fought tirelessly for Cannabis Freedom and Liberty.
I have attached a couple of pictures of the bench and the area it's located in. The plaque has been ordered and will take several weeks to be produced. When I have a date for the installation I will post another update.
Once again, Thank You to everyone who donated their time and money to make the idea of dedicating a Tribute Bench to Michael become reality!!
I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the Cannabis Community, friends and family who opened their hearts and their wallets to fund this Tribute to Michael. Because of that outpouring of support we raised the $5,000 in less than 30 days!
The application for the plaque has been submitted to the City of Boston and I will send out an update once I know when it will be installed.
But rest assured we will have another celebration on Mt. Malta on the day the plaque is installed. The memorial for Michael L. Malta will be in place for 15 years. And I truly believe it will become a gathering point for people to come together and celebrate, remember and hopefully be inspired by his dedication to Cannabis Freedom!!!
To answer Mike Crawford's question, the fundraiser page will stay active until we have raised the $5,000. Also please remember you can donate as little or as much as you can. And, if you choose to donate anonymously, you can do that.
Thanks to everyone that has donated!
Michael Malta a.k.a. The King of Pot passed away suddenly on October 6, 2013. He was an inspiration to many, a father, son, husband, friend to all and one fiery fueled Marijuana Legalization Revolutionary. To honor his memory we are raising funds to have a tribute bench placed on Mt. Malta in the Boston Common. For $5,000 a bronze plaque inscribed with his name will be in front of the bench for 15 years.
Our goal is to raise the $5,000 and have the bench dedicated in the Fall of 2014 shortly before the next Boston Freedom Rally.
Dad, you were the highlight of all of our worlds. You taught us to love, care, have a huge heart, express feelings, admit when wrong and accept everyone for who they are. Almost 26 years with you-not nearly enough even though every single one was filled with the best memories a daughter could share with her dad. Thank you for loving Peter and being a dad to him. I would have given anything to see the look on your face the first time you would have seen Patrick. I can only hope I get to see you again someday. $420, because that was your number, your holiday, a huge part of your life. We love you forever
