My name is Irma Michelle and I’m a new dog owner. After living in cities for the past 15 years I’ve finally been able to have an animal thanks to moving to Austin! I moved on November 6th and during the first two weeks after adopting Smokey I noticed he was sleeping a lot and had labored breathing.
We have discovered that Smokey has a diaphragmatic hernia from blunt-force trauma to the abdomen. Essentially all of his organs have migrated through a tear in his diaphragm and up into his chest cavity/rib cage. His organs have pushed his heart over and caused his lungs to collapse.
Smokey has been admitted to surgery this morning at 7 AM.
Thankfully this $6000-$10,000 surgery is being quoted at $1200 thanks to Veterinary Surgical Solutions here in Austin, Texas.
