Cambodia: The Sequel

Donación protegida
Hello dear friends and assorted family!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Morgan, and I am in love with the country that is Cambodia

Last year, at the fresh, young age of 18; I set out on a mission. As every new high-school graduate is, I had absolutely no clue what I wanted to do at uni! I didn’t know what I wanted for dinner, let alone the rest of my life. So I did what any normal teenager would do, I moved to Cambodia.

I had lived there most of my life already, and my sister is adopted from Cambodia, so it just made sense! I reached out to an amazing place called Salvation Centre Cambodia (SCC), I taught at their Battambang and Siem Reap branches, teaching everything from English, to history, to maths.

Salvation Centre Cambodia (SCC) began in 1994 with the primary aim of encouraging Buddhist monks to help reduce the stigma associated with HIV by educating their communities on HIV/AIDS, in particular on its causes, its effects and on possible prevention measures. Besides prevention mechanisms and education, SCC has been throughly  implementing a comprehensive care and livelihood program to enable people living with HIV and people living under the poverty line, a life in dignity and freedom.

As people with HIV/AIDS face social and economical discrimination, SCC are committed to both strengthening and achieveing their rights and to eliminate all forms of stigma and exclusion, whether they are caused by insufficient knowledge about HIV/AIDS or by gender stereotypes.

Furthermore, SCC steadily develops their basic education program as a supplementary offer to children whose parents may be suffering from HIV/AIDS who can't access the public schooling system to achieve an education, as their needs are excluded from public education due to economic or social reasons/discrimination.

It’s safe to say, those kids had such a crazy impact on my life, and each and every one of them hold such a special place in my heart ❤️

The friends I made, the places I discovered, and being immersed in a culture I was already familiar with made it feel like home. Although, my heart broke every time I had to leave them to go home, knowing that absolute poverty and an uncertain future waited for them at their home.

Then it hit me, I wanted to fight for these kids as much as help them, so I now study psychology which will specialise in people who have suffered trauma and living third world countries; and I hope to study law in the new year, specialising in international law and human rights (pls uni of melb send me that sweet acceptance letter).

So why this long winded speech? To let you guys know that I’m returning back to Cambodia in December (4th time back post-teaching adventure) to check on the lovely kids and staff of SCC ❤️ It would mean the absolute world to me and these kids if you could help out with as little as a dollar, because absolutely everything helps ✨

Salvation Centre Cambodia is completely funded by it's donors. The  Cambodian Government does not fund Salvation Centre Cambodia's generous humanitarian work, which is why I need your help, to ensure that Salvation Centre Cambodia keeps doing all the work they do, and that I get to keep on visiting.

Thank you all so much, and thank you for reading my spiel

Much love and hugs
