Durfee Family Paradise Fire Recovery

On November 8th 2018 the Durfee family were forced to evacuate the town of Paradise due to the Camp Fire, which has now become the most destructive fire in California state history. Dawn, her husband Dave, their two children, and pets were able to escape the path of the fire in their Airstream and make it to Chico where they've hunkered down awaiting news about their home and neighborhood. They received news that their home was destroyed in the fire.

It will be some time before insurance support is clear and FEMA has not yet setup shop or established support. Even when insurance or federal/state support is available, it will likely not cover all of their needs. Despite everything, the Durfees are grateful for where they are today. In Dawn's own words, written just a day after they were evacuated:

“In spite of the last 24 hours, I woke up this morning in my camper overwhelmed with gratitude. I am so happy to be alive and to have been able to save my pets and find my children safe. I am so thankful for Cal Fire who has risked their lives all year trying to save our NorCal homes. But I am most thankful for the overwhelming support of my family, friends and coworkers. Thank you all for your messages and concern... I just want you to know that your communications have meant the world to me and I appreciate you so much. I hope that our experience encourages all of you to get disaster prepared."
