Kangaroo Care Chairs For Monash NICU

Donation protected
My son Logan was born this year on May 22nd at 26 weeks and 6 days gestation straight after he was born Logan was rushed to the NICU at monash children’s hospital which very quickly became home. With Logan spending 139 days in NICU we would really love to give back to a place that will always hold a very special place on our hearts because they helped to fight and keep our baby alive. Along our NICU journey we have meet many wonderful families and watched not only Logan grow and reach milestones but those of other children aswell. We have unfortunately also been witness to the loss of 3 beautiful children. With the help of our family and friends we would like to raise money to purchase 2 kangaroo care chairs for Monash children’s hospital. One donated on behalf of Logan and his Nicu buddies Olive, Ryland, Evie and Quinn and then one in memory of Esther, Alexander and Oscar. Monash children’s NICU do not currently have enough chairs for every cot so parents are required to book in a time to be able to have kangaroo care with their babies. The chairs that they hospital do currently have are all donated so we would love to be able to add to the collection. Kangaroo care or skin-to-skin care is a special way both mums and dads can spend time holding their baby and it is an experience parents remember fondly during their hospital stay. Babies wear only a nappy and are placed in an upright position directly on their dad’s bare chest or between mum’s bare breasts. The baby’s head will be turned to the side and then a blanket is placed on top. Benefits to Baby -Maintain baby’s body temperature -Regulates baby’s heart and breathing rates -Encourages baby to spend more time in a deep sleep -Increases baby’s weight gain -Improved oxygen saturation levels -Can improve breast milk production and increases the chances of successful breastfeeding -Longer periods of alertness -Helps promote frequent breastfeeding Benefits to Parents -Can build confidence -Increases your bond with baby and can ease feeling of separation -Can improve breast milk production and increases the chances of successful breastfeeding
