The Salas family has been through more than their share of tragedy. They have endured the loss of a mother in 2011, a father in 2014 and a sister only a few days ago. I am Elizabeth Stanley, Vianney and formerly Valentina's high school counselor. I have been inspired by their amazing work ethic despite the challenge of being orphaned at a young age.
The following is Vianney's description of her family:
The Salas family was a family of six, parents being Jose Salas and Ubalda Perales. They had 4 beautiful daughters, Victoria being the oldest, Valerie, Valentina, and Vianney following. In November 2011, Ubalda passed away due to medical reasons. Devastated, but not discouraged, Jose had continued to look after the girls. Jose was able to take their second oldest, Valerie, to Bryn Mawr college, in which she had earned the Posse Scholarship in 2013. Looking after the other girls in Houston, Jose’s health had declined. Unfortunately, in the year of 2014, Jose had passed away. Mourning the death of their parents, the Salas sisters had understood that they would have to stick together no matter what. The oldest, Victoria, had to fill in the shoes of both their parents. Victoria had raised the younger two through high school, as Valentina had got into UT El Paso and Vianney earned the Posse Scholarship to Wellesley College. Valerie had encouraged them all to achieve what they wanted, and helped them through the college application process. Tragically, Valerie passed away May 2nd. The Salas girls are left to pick up the pieces after the loss of a family member, yet again.
Valerie was the breadwinner for the family and her loss puts the family in an unstable financial position. There are also expenses associated with getting Valentina and Vianney to their respective colleges this fall. The family hopes to get a nice urn for Valerie’s ashes. The family is not planning a funeral. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Let's relieve some of the stress of this very difficult time. All money will go directly to Vianney's bank account for the sisters to use as needed.
