Help Support Dairy Farmer& His Cows

Donation protected
I’m raising money for someone very special to me, someone who deserves something good to happen for him and his animals. I work for a man named Fred Havill and he has the last dairy farm in Tyringham Massachusetts, Hav’s Farm. This man has been a farmer for his whole life. He helped run his family farm when he was younger, went to college to further his knowledge in farming, moved from Vermont to Lee Ma to work as the herd manager at High Lawn Farm, and finally he moved to Tyringham to run Hav’s farm, which he has leased the farm for the last 40+ years. The amount of knowledge and stories this man has could make you want to talk with him for hours beyond end. He has a heart of gold, a great sense of humor, and just lights up a room when he talks. Over the last 77 years he has struggled through many herdles in his life, but has always had a positive attitude and strong will to surpass every obstacle that stood in his way. Cancer, a horrible tractor accident, a hip replacement, no matter the struggle, farming and his cows have always got him through the worst. The dairy industry is struggling horribly right now, milk prices are extremely low which makes its almost impossible to stay afloat. With 60+ milking cows plus many heifers and calves, he goes through a lot of feed. With the horrible spring, summer and now fall that we’ve had, the animals haven’t got the necessary feed they need. The amount of rain has kept the cows indoors a lot and has also kept the tractors off the fields not cutting any hay. So for this coming winter Fred will not have any hay stored away. Where normally he has anywhere from 500-800 bales stored to get through the winter. Fred has used all his resources to try and buy hay. He’s tried getting loans, grants, calling local representatives for help, but seeing as he does not own the land or farm it’s nearly impossible to receive any help. Money is extremely tight for Fred. 40 plus years of wear and tear on the farm, things need fixing, and these things cost a lot of money. Money that he doesn’t necessarily have. But the most important thing is having funds to feed his animals for the winter. If he can not get feed for his beloved cows, he will have to sell them. He won’t know where they will go and he will not know what to do, because those cows are his entire life. He loves them more than life. They are his business partners, his source of income, his livelyhood, his everything. A cow is not just something you get milk out of. You raise this beautiful animal from the second it’s born, you care and love for it, you watch it grow into an amazing animal that helps you and the world survive. At 77 years old Fred spends between 20-24 hours a day caring for his cows, with very little help. For the last 3 years that I have worked with him, I’ve seen him slow down, he struggles with daily work, that he use to be able to do without even blinking an eye. He’s tired and in a big slump and needs your help. Sooo pleaseeeee consider helping an amazing man continue doing what he loves and helping his beautiful animal live happy, healthy and long lives!! And if you’re ever in Tyringham stop into the farm, see the cows, talk and listen to Fred, and maybe even pick up a shovel! I apprecitate you reading this and showing Fred and his cows some love.
