Team A05 Annex is the first team in Hood River, OR to start a FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team under the direction of Jeff Blackman, the Hood River Valley High School robotics teacher.  The FRC team is the original and the highest level robotics team.

FRC is new to us this year, but we have many goals such as inspiration, outreach, and community involvement.

Our current team is small in membership (12 kids), but big in aspirations.  We have far exceeded our expectations, and are now expected to reach the ultimate goal of going to the Worlds Competition in Houston, Texas.

In the first of our 2 competitions last month, our team (6831) ended up advancing to the finals, and placing fourth in final playoffs at the Clackamas Academy of Industrial Science event.

We also received both the Rookie All Star Award and the Highest Rookie Seed Award.

Between the first and second competition, we are only allowed to have 6 hours to improve or fix the robot (which breaks a lot).  At all other times the robot must be bagged up. At the second competition at the FIRST District Sundome Event in Yakima, WA, we did exceedingly well again.  We went to finals placing 4th in playoffs, almost guaranteeing our advancement to the Worlds Competition as our overall rank is high among the 164 teams.  Again we were honored with 2 awards, the 2018 Rookie Inspiration Award and and the Highest Rookie Seed Award. The next competition we attend is the Pacific Northwest District Event at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, OR April 4-7.

We would like to reach out to community and friends for any way you can help keep this endeavor growing, and not just for the new team, but for all the teams growing around the world.  We want to be the community to help start the growth for robotics to be “The New Normal” and for children of all ages to be able to make a change for the world through technology and science. These programs are only possible with help from you and a global outreach.

We are currently painting a white bus to go to schools to demonstrate robots and encourage kids to have an awareness and /or  become involved in robotics and STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Math). Support can go to HRVHS A05 6831 and is tax deductible (1220 Indian Creek Road, Hood River, OR 97031) with the school mailing back a receipt.

We have qualified for the Worlds Competition which is in Houston, TX April 18-21, and entry fees for competition are $5000, plus funds to help 20 persons (students and mentors/coaches) to travel 5 days.
