Archery Equipment

Donation protected
Hi! I am Bruce Strong and I am the volunteer archery instructor at the North Suburban YMCA in Woburn Massachusetts. I have been teaching classes at this Y for 14 years. In years past I have also taught as a volunteer at a different YMCA as well as at Boy Scout camps. I currently teach four classes a week year-round. I not only provide my time, but all the equipment used in the classes as well, although the Y has provided some targets over the years.

I like being in complete control of my equipment as it gives me freedom to care for the equipment as it needs to be and not have to worry about it being used, abused, or appropriated by others. I have been slowly gathering additional equipment that can be helpful to my students through donations and small purchases. But now I am in need of new equipment. With the recent surge in popularity of archery, thanks in part to the movies like Hunger Games, Brave, and the Lord of the Rings, my classes have increased both in size and desire. I now have adult and junior archers who want to go further, to compete, and aim for the Olympics. With the summer Olympics coming up soon I expect another rise in interest.

I also have a number of students who, while they may never approach that level, are discovering there is a sport they can participate in and enjoy and do well no matter what their current physical ability is. I have been able to teach these students some archery skills and generate in them a self-confidence they have never had before. There is great joy in watching them have fun and come to the self-realization that they can succeed.

I have upgraded myself through training so that I am now a Level 3-NTS (National Training System) Coach and look forward to advancing to a Level 4 next year. Now it is time to upgrade my equipment. I want to be able to provide the right equipment for all my students, not just the camp bows, and better show them what they can achieve. As they improve, their progression fuels their desire and need for their own gear, freeing up the equipment for the next wave of students.

Won't you please help me help them? While one day I do hope to own my own range and open as a business, (a guy's gotta dream) what I need now is just the minimum of new equipment to help my students (current and future) along. What will the money go to? $4000 will provide me with new bows, arrows, safety gear, storage, and maintenance equipment that will allow me to double the number of students I can accommodate and give them all the best archery experience I possibly can.

The new equipment:

Should more than the minimum be raised, there is much more to be purchased: additional arrows, training equipment, fletching tools, a portable bow press, a durable storage shed to house it all when not in use, and additional maintenance equipment.

So please help. $20, $100, $500, what ever you can afford. Every bit helps.

I am happy to answer any questions about my program and myself.
Thank-you for your interest and generosity and keep shooting!
