Hi Everyone,
For those of you who may not know, Shannon was a passenger in a very serious car accident on Tuesday night, August 4th while she was vacationing in Florida. She sustained multiple serious injuries including a lacerated liver, a knee injury, but the worst of which is her back. Shannon has a burst compression fracture in one of her vertebrae which required her to have surgery to put two metal rods and six screws in to stabilize her back. Recovering and getting back on her feet is going to be an extremely long and painful process. Shannon is a Division I runner, and a Senior captain of the team at the University of Delaware. She is very strong and we know she will make it through these injuries. In six months Shannon will have to endure another back surgery and we don't know the extent of her knee injury. In order to get Shannon back home to New Jersey, she must be transported in an air ambulance and then live in an in-patient rehabilitation center for at least two weeks for intensive physical therapy. We are trying to get her into Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, NJ. However, the air ambulance is an out-of-pocket expense that is extremely costly. We thank all our friends, family, and in some cases people we don't even know for their continued love, support, concern, and most importantly your prayers for Shannon's recovery. We are so overwhelmingly grateful for everyone who has reached out to us and has offered encouraging words and gestures of kindness, reassurance, and assistance for our family. If anyone is able, we are asking for any support you can offer to help with the costs of the air ambulance that will transport Shannon home and onto the next phase of her recovery. If not, we ask that you continue to keep Shannon in your prayers that she will have the quickest and healthiest recovery possible. Thank you all so much in advance.
