Fermin Vasquez & His Fight With ALS

In the summer of 2013, Fermin Vasquez, father of Samantha, Esteban, and Isabella and beloved husband of Azalea, was diagnosed with ALS and his world completely changed.
ALS is a disease that robs its victims of the ability to walk, dress themselves, talk, swallow, and ultimately breathe. All while leaving the mind perfectly intact.
ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The disease progressively affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The death of motor neurons impacts the control of voluntary muscles. It is characterized by having stiff muscles, muscle twitching and gradually worsening weakness due to the failing of the body’s muscle system. There is currently no treatment or cure for this debilitating disease and ultimately leads to complete paralysis. Individuals diagnosed with ALS in Fermin’s age group typically see a life expectancy of 2-5 years. Fermin is now in his 5th year of diagnosis and the disease has progressed extensively.

This GoFundMe campaign has been established by his family and friends to help Fermin in his fight with ALS and to improve his quality of life with this disease. This campaign is focused on raising the funds needed to get him full time care and to pay for medical expenses that the insurance will not cover. Because of the progression of this disease, we need your support as soon as possible.
Fermin ran a successful real estate firm and had been a very proud provider for his family. His loss of income has strained family finances. As the disease is making a rapid progression Fermin is needing even more demanding care, Azalea is working hard to maintain the household and to take care of his daily needs.
Fermin is not the kind of person who is comfortable asking for support, but now he needs our help.
