Excuse my language, but that’s just how I’m feeling. It’s not everyday that you find out you have cancer.
My name is Michelle Jannette Barroso, born and raised in San Francisco California and I just turned 48 years old this past June. I graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, and then from Dominican College of San Rafael with my BSN. I am a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. I’m the wife of Eduardo Barroso who is a carpenter and works for the city of San Francisco for MUNI, and the proud mother of three beautiful children; Melissa and Loreto who are both in college, and Cheree who is in high school.
On June 16th I was alarmed to find 11 pea sized lumps around my neck. So that following Wednesday I scheduled a doctors appointment, just to be safe and say I had it checked out. The following week on Junes 26th, we received the results of my biopsy. They told me they had found Adenocarcinoma, I had Cancer. We conducted the necessary diagnostic tests to find out how severe my case was and where exactly in my body the cancer was. We were so convinced we had caught it early, I felt normal, no side effects, my electrolyte and metabolic panels all came back within normal range. Looking at me, you never would have guessed.
On my 21st Wedding Anniversary, July 5th, my family and I went to Kaiser and received the devastating prognosis. I have stage 4 Metastatic Adenocarcinoma, and it has spread throughout my body. It is in the lymph nodes throughout my body, my mediastinum, esophageal junction, my liver, pancreas, stomach, lower hip bones, and my pelvic bones. The doctor told me that without treatment that I have 6 months, up to a year.
I have always had a positive outlook on life. I’ve always promoted the whole power of intention, power of attraction, the secret, etc. So naturally I’m trying to think positive, but I have to admit, I am super scared. I don’t know what my future holds. All I know is that I am not ready to leave this world.
After some research we found that in my case, chemotherapy would only increase my presumed time by 5%. So this is my plea for help. I have found that there are cures for cancer in other countries, treatments that are not made available here in the United States. Since they are treatments not offered here, my insurance will not cover it. That is where this GoFundMe comes into play. Please help me with my cause, anything helps, even a dollar, whatever you can afford.
I want to help in finding the cure, make a difference, and tell my story to the world. I’ve never been one to give up, so I’m not about to start now!
