Help save The Greenport Auditorium

Donation protected
My name is Alex Aurichio, and I'm raising money to preserve and restore the historic Greenport Auditorium, in the village of Greenport, NY. The building has been in my family since 1968. The harsh winters and seaside air of the North Fork have taken their toll on the exterior, while the interior is still in very good condition from a previous restoration a few decades ago. My brother Andrew Aurichio, is the owner of the building,  and runs a furniture business there, that our father bought when he purchased the building from the previous owner, Oscar Goldin.

We would like to restore the building to it's original beauty, and possibly return it to it's original use, as the cultural centerpiece of the Village of Greenport it once was. It could be used for theatrical, film and music venues, as well as for community, corporate, and private events. Numerous film and television productions have used Greenport as a backdrop over the years. We would like to be able to offer them the benefit of our facilities and make the Village an even more attractive destination. Until that time, Goldin Furniture will continue to be the main occupant of the building. A return to original use would require village approval, fire code compliance, public assembly permits and wheelchair accessibility. The purpose of this first campaign is to begin restoration.

Emergency repairs were made to the roof recently to prevent further damage, but it needs major work, as well as, accurate restoration of exterior walls, a new paint job, electrical rewiring and foundation reinforcement. Historic restorations of this scale are extremely costly, so we're asking for donations, to begin the process as soon as the weather permits. Future repairs will include complete rewiring and possibly installation of solar panels on the south side of the roof that is not visible from the street. The generosity of donors who support the arts is critical to the success of this venture, especially in it's early stages.

This project is near and dear to my heart because I grew up here. As a child, I loved exploring this beautiful old Queen Anne Victorian theater. As a teenager, I worked at the furniture business that my parents ran. It would break my heart to see it fall into decay, or be sold off for a fraction of it's real value. Built in 1894, it's a local, state and national treasure that must be preserved. Only 6 theaters of the same design still exist anywhere in the world. Our hope is to see it returned to it's orginal splendor and updated with 21st century technology.

My whole family will be immensely grateful for any donations, large or small. We're not sure yet how to reward donors, but some ideas include free tickets to; our future fund raising events, concerts, screenings and theatrical performances, as well as discounted rates for event rentals. I thank you for your time and for every penny you can spare to preserve this beautiful building.
