Young Pastor/Father Cancer Struggle

Hi! I’m Darius Carlo. Like many of you reading this, I am a dedicated husband and proud father of 4 beautiful girls. For the past year, I have had the pleasure of serving the greater East Orlando community as a Pastor at Love Gospel Worship Center where I spend my time mentoring teenagers and young adults. Last week, I went to give blood looking forward to the free movie tickets they were offering as a plus. What came next has changed my families story forever.
I was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia, a form of cancer that affects the production of normal blood cells. The condition was serious and aggressive enough where I was immediately hospitalized. A few days later I began an aggressive Chemotherapy treatment. Further tests has confirmed that my treatment will last for a period of 12-18 months. In addition to Chemo, I eventually may be required to receive a bone marrrow or stem cell procedure. In the next 30 days, I will return to my home, but due to my compromised immune system I will be confined to my residence during my treatment to avoid bacteria and germs. My home will have to be professionally sterilized, my children will be trained in preventative measures they must undergo when they come home from school, I will not be allowed to visit my nieces and nephews, my work at the church will cease, and the worst of it all is I cannot go back to work to provide for my family.
My current insurance plan does not provide short or long-term disability benefits and the check I received today is my last. After taking a long look at the road ahead and facing the reality of our situation, my loving wife and I have decided to sell our home, to downsize our spending, and we are looking for alternative income sources to help stabilize our children’s lives and manage the future medical expenses we will need for my treatment.
My heart has always been to give to others as well as cooking/fellowshipping with families in my home. I have never been the one who is comfortable with asking for help. However, this is not just about me but about those I love the most. As a family we are asking you first and foremost for your prayer support, we know without God this journey would be impossible. In addition, if you can, any financial assistance will be greatly appreciated as we face this difficult challenge. It is not an easy thing to ask for this kind of help, but I do believe in the compassion of people that want to help.
