Please help #FreeMichael. Michael spends much of his time in bed looking for a glimpse of the world beyond his room through a window, a magazine or a television. It’s like being a prisoner in his own home, not able to go places because he doesn’t have a wheelchair accessible van. Like most teenagers he loves to play video games and watch professional wrestling. Unfortunately this is the closest he gets to the outside world unless he is going to the doctor or to the hospital for a potentially life threatening emergency.
You see, Michael was born 17 years ago and had a stroke at birth leaving him a quadriplegic, paralyzed from Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus (water on the brain), a hole in his heart and limited vision - legally he is blind. With only one of these ailments many of us would give up hope and feel as though the world was a horrible place. However even after 11 surgeries on his brain and more time in the hospital than most people spend during a lifetime Michael is still full of joy and love for everyone.
Three years ago the old wheel chair accessible van he relied on for transportation broke down beyond repair. Since that time he has been a prisoner of his disabilities. All he wants from life is to be able go to the park and see other children or to get to go to his favorite church on Sunday or even to see his family on the holidays and at birthday parties (which he frequently misses because his family doesn't have transportation that can accommodate him).
These are small things to most people but to a 17 year old that hasn't been able to do the few small things he enjoys this is like being a prisoner in his own home. We are asking you to please help us raise money to buy Michael a handicap wheel chair accessible van for him and his family.
As sad as this situation is, it isn't rare. Due to Michaels situation we have met other families that are facing the same problem and other children that are missing out on life because they can”t leave their home. As a result we want to raise $100,000 to buy two fully equipped handicapped accessible vans to give to two different families. We already have a second family in mind but we cant bear the disappointment if we are unable to raise the money for this so we want to keep it a surprise. Please help #FreeMichael so he can spread the love and happiness he brings to everyone he meets. The world needs a few more Michael’s and right now he needs you.
If you can’t donate then please take a moment and just share this message. #FreeMichael
