5th Grade Global Cookbook

In this time of negativity and stress for immigrants, we wanted to do something to shine a light on the special families that make up our school community and to celebrate the traditions of all.  What better way than through stories and food!

Students in the 5th grade at JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres in Silver Spring Maryland have worked hard this fall researching and writing about their families and the foods they love for a cookbook which will feature recipes from around the world, original stories, and illustrations by students.

Working with teachers and experts from the community, students are engaged in every step of the process from writing, editing and design, to marketing and sales. This authentic experience will serve yet another purpose as proceeds from the sale of our cookbook will help fund the fifth grade year-end field trip.

We need your help to fund the printing of this unique book!  In addition to making a memorable year end trip possible for our fifth graders, your support will help lift up the students and families who make our community a wonderful place to live and work.

This is a three week campaign. Your timely donation in any amount will make 121 students, 5 teachers, and numerous volunteers  ecstatic!
