B's Brain Surgery

At the age of just 23 i am facing the biggest challenge of my life, soon to be admitted for brain surgery for a condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation, Type 1. This is a condition where your brain tissue extends into your spinal canal due to the malformed base of the skull and reduces the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. This causes issues such as headaches, vision impairment, speech impairment, swallowing difficulties and worst case paraplegia. Due to the severity of my Malformation, I also have a large syrinx in the centre of my spinal chord, this causes permanent damage to nerves all throughout my body. Surgery is not a cure for this condition, but it reduces the symptoms and potentially prevents permanent damage to nerves throughout my body. Due to the nature of my condition, this surgery can only be performed in a private hospital which my private health will not cover, so I’m facing out of pocket fees of $25,000+. So here’s my message to you; As someone who finds it difficult to ask for help, I was incredibly hesitant about positing this. My goal is to reach just at least $10,000 in donations to help ease the financial burden and stress on my family.
