Heart Attack Recovery

Donation protected
Late Saturday night, my Dad (Kent Mundhenk) suffered a massive heart attack in the parking lot of my apartment complex. We are very grateful that my parents were here in DC visiting me instead of home alone in Texas, that an EMT who lives in our apartment complex happened to walk by and stopped to help us, and that we live only a few miles away from a very good hospital. We were able to get him help very quickly, and according to the doctors, if we had been much later he wouldn't be alive right now.

He's beginning the hard work of slowly recovering, but the future remains uncertain. He's awake and coherent and eating a little for the first time in the past 24 hours, which is good. He will be in the hospital for at least 2 more days, and then we'll have to cancel their flights back to Texas so he can stay in the area for a week or two for follow-up appointments. Then, he'll get a referral to a cardiac rehab center in Texas and go home to continue his recovery.

My parents are missionaries who have devoted their lives to helping others, and as a result, have precious little extra money to help deal with emergency situations like this. Funds are even tighter when they're in the United States on furlough, as they are now. My Mom has medical issues that prevent her from being able to work, and for the past little while my Dad has been doing odd jobs around the church to help make ends meet. Unfortunately,  that is obviously not going to be an option until he fully recovers, and they quite honestly have no idea how they're going to make it without help.

Their health insurance deductible and out of pocket limits are quite high. $15,000 would be enough to pay the impending hospital bills, and to help them make ends meet until he recovers enough to work. Anything you can give is so appreciated. My parents would never ask for help on their own, and I hate to even have to ask for help, but because I know what their financial state is, I wanted to do everything I could to help them and don't have the resources on my own. If you can't give financially, we would covet your thoughts and prayers and encouragement during this time.

Thank you so much,

Stefanie (for Kent and Michelle Mundhenk)
