DJ gained his angel wings on December 6, 2018 after waiting in the hospital for over 300 days for a heart transplant. We are trying to bring him home from to lay him to rest. Please help any way that you can. Share his story and never forget his beautiful warrior spirit.
My son Daniel, DJ, is currently waiting inpatient for a heart transplant at Joe Dimaggio children's hospital in Hollywood FL. He just turned 15 yrs old June 23rd! He was born with Shone's complex and was very sick when he was born, he had a balloon of his valve at 4 days old which helped him make it to his first open heart surgery at 6 weeks old for aortic valve replacement. But his mitral and aortic valves kept failing. He had 5 replacements before his first birthday, two at age 2, and his last valve replacement at age 7, for a total of 8 valve replacements. He developed severe pulmonary hypertension shortly after birth secondary to his heart defect and its never resolved. In the fall of 2017, he became sick again and is in end stage heart failure. The mechanical valve that was placed when he was 2 yrs old is now too small, and his aortic valve has calcified and is severely leaking. He also has developed a porcelain aorta. His only hope of survival is a heart transplant. He was admitted to PICU in January 2018 and it took until March 1st to get him healthy and stable enough to be placed on the list for transplant, status 1a. He has to remain inpatient until his special gift is found. I also have two younger children. They're dad and I separated 3 years ago. I had to leave my job in February in order to be with DJ since we live over 100 miles away from the hospital. I need help financially. My biggest worry right now is losing my apartment while my son waits for transplant as I just am not able to work right now. If you can help in anyway it would mean the world to us.
