Charlies Road To Recovery

Donation protected
Our boy Charlie has given us a big scare. Just before Christmas he had developed a cough.
After seeking advice from our local vet, we decided to treat the cough as if it was kennel cough. (20 Dec 2018)

Giving him the antibiotics and cough mixture proved to be difficult but we got there in the end and he finished his course of medication.
He seemed a bit better however the cough slowly came back to the point that he was regurgitating very think goop. (27 Dec 2018)

One month to the day, we took him back for another visit to the local vet. They prodded an poked and listen to his body and still no idea what might be wrong. With there recommendation we decided to have some x-rays done and see if there were any problems inside. (21 Jan 2019)

So, another Day, another Doller. Charlie went back for a day visit without me for his scans, he had to be sedated as it isn't often he is away from his sister Marley. When i went to pick him up, the news was not what i was ready to here. the vet explained that there was something in his lung that shouldn't be there and with opinions from there specialist, they said it looks to be a tumor or cancer. The only way they could be sure is by seeing a specialist at SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital) and they would be able to advise us on the next steps. (23 Jan 2019)

We booked an appointment with a specialist for the Friday because we needed to know what was making our boy sick. After the big trek across Sydney to the hospital and charlie in good spirits we met his doctor.  We spoke with the doctor for 45 minutes about charlie and his current behavior versus past. She prodded and poked and listen to his body.
After all this, she recommended a few things which would mean we would have to leave him there for 5 hours.
this include a few needles and some shaved patches of hair and a trip to the CT scanner.
after our long wait, Chloe got the call from the hospital. we were prepared for the worst but were relieved to be told that it looks like fluid from an infection has gotten stuck in his lung. The Doc did say though that they could not rule out Cancer :( and they would consult with surgeons once all the tests come back. (25 Jan 2019)

We were expecting results back but they hadn't come back due to the Australia day long weekend but its looking like surgery will be the best way to be sure that there is no cancer and also to get rid of whats in there. (30 Jan 2019)

To date we have spent around $4,000 on
- check up of cough and medicine = $120
- 2nd check up = $40
- X-rays, sedation and half day board = $263
- Consult at SASH with CT Scan, Board, Biopsy, Sedation and Medication = $3,600

With the above expenses we have had to use credit, we had only just payed this off and is upsetting to use but he means so much to us, Our 1 year olds first word was Charlie so we will do everything we can to have him in the family for as long as he will allow. If we are advised that surgery is the best option and the only way to ensure that there is no cancer, we will go ahead with the operation. we have been told that this type of operation could cost up to $9,000.

We hope to raise some money, we don't expect to reach the amount we are asking for but every dollar will count towards charlies happiness and our young family.

My family and I appreciate you taking the time to read our story and are very great full for your donation.

We will keep every one up to date on how everything is going with Charlie.
