Helping Tyler Fight Brain Cancer

$2,200 of $10,000 goal

My name is Paul and I'm raising money for my sister Marissa and my nephew Tyler. Just yesterday I was playing on a jungle gym with Tyler and he was just like any other kid. Today (May 27,2018) we found out he has a cancerous tumor on his brain the size of a fist. This evening, at Children's Hospital in Detroit, he goes for the first of many surgeries and we're told chemotherapy and radiation is in his future. As a single mother, my sister already has a rough time making ends meet. This fund is set up to assist Marissa with all financial matters during Tyler's battle with cancer. She will undoubtedly need to take time off of work to be by his side at the hospital, and being self-employed, she will not be able to receive paid time off or FMLA leave. The last thing Marissa should need to worry about right now is finances. Donations of any amount, no matter how big or small, will help. Updates of Tyler's battle to follow in the coming days.

I just talked to Marissa, and she gave me an update that is nothing short of a miracle. The results of Tyler's latest scans revealed that the neurosurgeon didn't just get 90% of the Tumor, she was able to remove the entire tumor! What she though was the remaining 10% is in fact just scar tissue. The team is saying Tyler has done the impossible. He was declared cancer free! He will still be in the hospital for at least 6 more weeks to continue physical therapy and learn to walk again, and they will continue monitoring the tumor site. We can't forget that this form of cancer is know for returning rapidly still. I know I'm kind of rambling but I'm seriously crying I'm so happy.

Message for Tyler's mom and dad:
We received the pathology report on Friday June 8th. We did not post immediately as we needed to talk to close family and friends first and allow us as parents to process it all. Tyler has Anaplastic Meningioma that is malignant. It had grown to grade 3 cancer. The tumor is very uncommon in pediatric patients and in fact is usually found in females 58 years and older. Children's Hospital had advised us to send the removed portion of the tumor to St.Judes Children's Hospital for further testing and assistance with a gameplan for treatment. The type of cancer Tyler has is aggressive and rapid growing. So until the report comes in what was left of the tumor will be closely monitored. Tyler is a fighter that's forsure and together WE WILL BEAT THIS.... we ask if you can please keep my baby boy in your prayers as I do believe they are working. Please follow #Tylerstrong on Facebook for updates, pictures, and video as he continues this battle.

Update: Tyler's ICP was registering in the 30's, normal pressure is between 15 - 20, they opened the EVD back up to relieve the pressure. The doctor noted a Shunt may be necessary in the next 2 days. A Shunt is a valve, with tubing that reroutes the spinal fluid from the ventricles in the brain to the abdomen all valves and tubing is placed under the skin. Normally our ventricles use the spinal cord to do this, but sometimes this area will close off due to trauma and has to be rerouted. Our cousin Briana Marie Sochowicz has had numerous shunt placements and revisions since birth so we are familiar. Please continue with your good thoughts and prayers it is truly appreciated. We will update with more information as we receive it. Thank you all for the outpouring support! The fund is going to help Marissa and Tyler more than you can imagine. Please feel free to repost it in any way helpful. We have a number of event fundraisers in the works right now, and I'll be updating you as I receive the final details for them. Tyler has a long road ahead of him still.

Its going to be a rough day with him with pressure headaches so neurosurgery said morphine every 2 hours. Pathology report should be in today and we will have all the answers and a game plan set in place by tomorrow afternoon hopefully.
