Join us in working to build a better world for us all. Thank you. Re-evaluation Counseling Community’s Black Liberation and Community Development BLACK LIBERATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Black Liberation and Community Development (BLCD) is an annual workshop attended by people of African heritage who come together to heal the damage done by racism, and to develop strategies for liberation using the theory and methodologies of Re-evaluation Counseling. Coming together with other Black people to listen to one another and to build close, lasting relationships has been an empowering experience for those who have participated. BLCD has enabled hundreds of people to move effectively against racism in their daily lives, to improve their family and community relations, to address institutional racism, and to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds involved in ending racism and strategizing liberation. BLCD was started by Barbara Love, International Liberation Reference Person for people of African Heritage in the Re-evaluation Counseling communities and a retired professor of Social Justice Studies at University of Massachusetts. Barbara held the first BLCD workshop in the current series over 25 years ago. Thousands of African Heritage people have attended the workshops and the workshop is now held in four regions annually, three in the USA (West Coast, Midwest, East Coast/Caribbean) and one in Europe. Workshops are also held in Africa. ABOUT RE-EVALUATION COUNSELING COMMUNITY Re-evaluation Counseling theory provides a model of what a human being can be like in the area of his/her interaction with other human beings and his/her environment. The theory assumes that everyone is born with tremendous intellectual potential, natural zest, and lovingness, but that these qualities have become blocked and obscured in adults as the result of accumulated distress experiences (fear, hurt, loss, pain, anger, embarrassment, etc.) which begin early in our lives. Members of the Re-evaluation Counseling Communities have worked on eliminating racism since the 1970's. In 1999 the International Re-evaluation Counseling Communities designated eliminating racism as our key issue, accelerating work on eliminating this oppression. Within the RC Communities people attend caucuses and workshops in which we exchange counseling to free themselves from the effects of racism. Some of these caucuses and workshops are for people of various heritages. Some are for single-heritage groups (African-descendants, Indigenous peoples, and so on). Re-evaluation Counseling is currently practiced in ninety-two countries. More information about Re-evaluation Counseling can be found on its web site at: http://www.rc.org Help spread the word!
