Not too long ago my beautiful mother was smiling, sharing jokes, listening to music each morning, and living a different life. My mom has always been strong, aside from all her health problems her big heart and laugh lit up the room. On Friday, May 11th our life changed and took an unexpected turn. She went in for a simple procedure to help relieve her chronic pain and other health issues. The day after the procedure she complained of head aches, had constant nausea and wasn’t able to eat well. I called her physician to inform him of her condition and he explained that what she feeling was normal. She lasted two days with horrible head aches and side affects. On Monday, she went in for a follow up, she told the doctor she wasn’t feeling well, she told him her symptoms and he said to give it a week and those symptoms would go away. When she got home I noticed she was pale and since she is diabetic I made her a meal. I noticed that she was falling asleep, so I changed her clothes and laid her down. I checked on her few times and all those times she was asleep. When I came to check on her Before dinner, I noticed she was stiff and her breathing had changed. We called 911, and she was quickly taken to the hospital. She was irresponsive. The doctors decided to fly her out of that location into another because they didn’t have a specialized physician to take care of her symptoms. The doctor mentioned that she had a stroke and for now that was all they knew. They transported her 2 hours away from our home, where she has been now for the past week. So far she has had 3 surgeries to relieve blood clots and inflammation of the brain. In one of those they realized that the device they had implanted in her had a leak and could have been the cause of the issues to the brain. It has been 7 days that I have not seen my moms beautiful eyes. It has been 7 days that I haven’t heard her laugh, seen her smile, heard her voice. I am hopeful; I am hopeful that she will wake up and be the same woman she once was. No matter what I know this will be a long process... but I as well as my husband and family will be by her every step of the way.
