Emrie’s Crazy Heart Adventure

Aloha, My name is Samantha Rogers. I recently was told that Emrie was diagnosed with a serious and rare heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot and Pulmonary Atresia with VSD and MAPCAS. She will need open heart surgery anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months after she is born, depending on her health at birth. Emrie’s surgery was scheduled on Nov. 30th but unfortunately her heart was not growing with her body and we could not wait that long so we had to do her surgery early on July 5th at the Stanford Children’s Hospital. This serious open heart surgery could not be performed in Hawaii. We eventually would need to fly back and forth between Maui for additional surgeries and check ups. It has taken an extreme toll on our financial situation. I, being such a young mom (21), with no money saved, and was completely unprepared for any of this.
