Train For Change Honduras Trip 2018

I have been working as a elementary school teacher with the Chula Vista School District in San Diego for 14 years. Teaching is definitely a passion of mine. I love inspiring young minds and providing them with the tools and opportunities to gain academic achievement and become future leaders. I was fortunate to become part of an educational organization that works abroad in Honduras called Train for Change. This organization's mission is to provide professional development to empower Honduran teachers and help improve education in the most impoverished areas of Honduras. Last year ,I had the opportunity to travel to Honduras and help lead some workshops to provide professional development to Honduran teachers. This experience is truly an experience I will never forget. I had the opportunity to tour schools in the most rural areas and see conditions that students endure daily. Our organization works to build better schools and improve conditions. I spent some time talking to political leaders of rural areas in Honduras, helping a construction crew work on building schools and working closely with teachers. We spent time inside classrooms to observe students and teachers. The relationships established with students,their families and teachers touched my heart. This July I will be returning to Honduras to continue our two year professional development training program. My daughter, a film major that is graduating from SFSU this year, will be joining me to document what our organization is currently working on, it's impact and to highlight our efforts in supporting students and teachers in Honduras. She will be conducting interviews with Honduran teachers to see how our program is helping to support them. She will also record our professional development workshops and will put together a video of our organization. However,our organization has very limited funding to pay for travel,food and board. This is where I am turning to my friends and family to help make this trip back to Honduras possible.
