Kindred -- Pratt 2018 Poetry

The Pratt Institute Poetry class of 2018 is sending you a carrier pigeon! We’re very excited that our class has opted out of the BFA Poetry Thesis competition and has appropriated the funds to help produce a literary publication instead. But in order to make as many copies as we’d like, we are asking for a little help!

Kindred will be an 84 page compilation of our class’ work beautifully designed by M. Ryan Murphy with dazzling cover art by Savannah Hampton.

We feel that this gesture toward fostering the community we’ve built at Pratt embodies our poetics and politics— that of relying on generous hearts, minds, and hands to collaboratively produce the careful avant-gardens of which we’re so proud and which we’re excited to share with the rest of our community. As our time at Pratt concludes, we are passionate about maintaining and growing the connections we’ve made here among ourselves and within the larger writing community in NYC. Kindred is one part of that practice— our turning page.

Kindred features five pages of work from each of us punctuated by pages which collect excerpts from letters we wrote to each other as part of rigorous and heartfelt readings of each other’s work. We also include a collaboratively-composed statement.

Our hope is to raise an additional $500 by April 10th so that we can print 60 copies of Kindred and share them with you all!
