My name is Holly. I love my father very much.
Dad is a semi-retired electrical engineer by trade and spent his entire career developing unique and useful tools for many industries and applications. His creations have touched many of our lives, even if we don’t realize it. Star Wars fans; he created the battery system for the motorized R2-D2 unit for the original Star Wars movies in the ‘70’s. His creations have been on board some of the Apollo missions to the Moon and he has built components critical to the military, medical, and transportation fields.
Sometimes, he’ll call me in the wee hours of the morning, knowing that I’ll answer no matter what the time is.
This morning, he called at about 4am, to tell me that the cancer has begun causing him a lot of pain. He couldn’t talk long because his pain pill hadn’t kicked in yet. It broke my heart to hear the pain in his voice over the phone, knowing we’re too far apart for me to do more to ease his struggles.
I want so much to take his pain away. To do something to help him.
My Father, Michael James Geery, has been battling cancer for the last 16 years.
“Basically, the Doctor is just wanting to give me pain killers until I die,” he says.
He’s tried a few different natural avenues of treatment over those years, and is now receiving a hormone therapy shot, as treatment, to help slow the growth of his prostate cancer. The cancer has spread to his bones and most likely to his organs, but that has yet to be confirmed as further testing is scheduled.
He has the company of a few local relatives to comfort him and provide basic things. It’s nice to know he’s not alone over there, as I am currently across the country.
Mike is the father of 12 children. He has 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, with a 13th on the way. He would love to meet the newest addition to his family. He doesn’t want to give in to his cancer. He wants to fight.
He wants to live.
Dad has found alternative treatment he would like to pursue. We’ve looked for facilities that offer this treatment at surrounding hospitals with no luck finding anything. Without available facilities for treatment, he is unable to get any financial help from his insurance.
He and his family are on their own for this fight. We are looking to raise $15,000 to actively do his treatment to ease the intense pain he’s in everyday now. Mike is a much loved member of our family who always has a kind word and helping hand for others. The love he has shown to so many has grown and taught us all so much. Now it’s our turn to show him the love and kindness he deserves. Please help us to get my father, my children’s Grandad, and their children’s Great Grandad the help he needs to continue this fight against cancer.
