There is a material prosperity that does not overcome a spirit (mindset) of poverty. Prosperity of spirit is marked by generosity.

Final Appeal for Finish Strong! 2018

We’ve been busy in Texas so I’m a little late making my final appeal for the Finish Strong! 2018 GoFundMe Campaign. Your response has been wonderful and, including responses outside of the actual campaign page, we have reached over 2/3rds of our goal with approximately $21,000 of the $30,000 objective. We are so grateful!

We operate on the principle of doing what God has put in our hearts with what He has placed in our hands. In doing so, we simply adapt to whatever circumstances God blesses us with. Whenever we fall short of resources to fulfill our expectations, we will scale back our rate of advancement until God provides through his chosen means to increase our provision. Often, we simply find ways to do more with less.

We are not discouraged in the least and are confident that in the providence of God we will have what we need when we need it to fulfill His plans for Pontis.

ONE OF THE GREATEST JOYS I have is seeing the young ones growing up into a life of promise and productivity that their parents have never had.

Some of you have met these three before, through our reports, and some have met them face to face.

Through Pontis, generations of Nicaraguan children will live more productive and secure lives than their parents. Mayuri, Yaser, and Deric are like our own family in many respects. Pontis makes sure they have the ability to continue their formal education at a nearby public school.

What fine young people they are growing up to be! Besides the fact that Deric is performing well in school, he is probably the hardest working kid I know. He’s always standing by to lend a hand even before being asked. Mayuri brings home the best grades, As and Bs, and Yaser is following in the footsteps of his older siblings. There’s a mighty cute smile hiding behind that report card.

It’s wonderfully gratifying to see the development of these children of very industrious and reliable parents, Marvin and Nora, knowing that their father only finished the 2nd grade.

You play a vital part in seeing this scenario play out in family after family throughout Nicaragua when you give into their lives through Pontis. Let us be your hands and feet to help build brighter futures for a new generation of Nicaraguan children through a holistic development program centered in the sustainable small family farm.

Thank you for your generosity and may you and your family have a blessed holiday season.

Yours in Nicaragua,

Leck Heflin, Executive Director

Well into the Home Stretch

I was a half-miler in high school. Now it’s 800 meters instead of 880 yards and it’s called a dash. Then it was considered middle distance. My fastest time was 2:00.05. I was told that it stood as a school record for about 10 years.

I wasn’t the fastest guy on the track, but I had some of the best tactics. Among the most critical skills were knowing things like when to preserve your energy, when to pass, when to hold someone off from passing you, and when to start your final kick. For me that was just as I started into the final turn toward the home stretch.

Pontis has entered the final turn on 2018. It’s been a great race so far and now we need to finish strong. To do that, we need to raise $30,000.

Here’s what your gift will help us do:

1.      Pay our last $1,500 on the land at The Pontis Demonstration and Experimental Farm in Veracruz.

2.      Continue to supply the needs of poor farmers on the island of Ometepe and in the mountains of Matagalpa for technical assistance and sustainable education.

3.      Begin drilling wells on the farms of our students and producers providing them with a third growing season per year, an opportunity to increase production by roughly 50%.

4.      Begin importation of WISErganic, a fertilizer and soil amendment product made from grocery store waste in the US. Pontis thoroughly tested WISErg in 2018 and has proven its beneficial capabilities on a variety of crops and in a variety of climates and soils. Our producers are eager to treat their crops next year and to begin to establish a full-blown distributorship of the product in Nicaragua, also providing jobs for our associates and trainees.

5.      Move forward with our business development work, providing needed products to our producers and solid jobs for our most capable trainees.

6.      Continue expansion of the work in the mountains and on the island in 2019.

Thank you,
