Desperately Need Help!!

My names justine! I’m a 27 year old single mother of 2. I just spent all my savings into moving us into our own place. An accident had occurred with my vehicle. I had asked some one to drive my car to a car appointment in Astoria as I was working and couldn’t take the time off. The driver was near the dunes bible camp in ocean park when a dog shot out right under vehicle. The owner of the dog took full responsibility and told me he had left his passenger door open and the dog jumped out and ran out in front of my car. It didn’t give my driver any time to see the dog let alone hit the brakes. I have a $500 deductible I have to pay to get my car fixed in which I cannot afford. I was told by my insurance company and both auto body shops to inquire about home owners insurance of the owner of the dog. The dog died on scene and even asking people around me what I should do it’s hard to bring myself to ask him to see if his home owners insurance can help cover my deductible. So I’m asking my friends and family and friends of friends for help. Im embarrassed to even ask this way but I’m kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.
