In Need Of A Braille Display

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Christopher Terry. I am blind and have been from birth. I am now 33 years old and am needing some help in any way you can do so. Below is my reason. In late June of 2015 I had an incident where I stopped breathing for a little more than 3 minutes. From then on, I’ve had issues with my head where I get unexplained pains. This is partly due to the fact that when hearing particular parts of speech patterns, the pain starts. It’s isn’t really terrible, but, it can stay around for some time at times. Now, there are certain times where those pieces of speech are hard to hear. This only happens with synthesized speech which is what is used in Screen Readers for the blind. I am asking and hoping to raise funds to purchase a Braille Display so that I can turn the speech off altogether and still use my computer and mobile device. For those that don’t know, a Braille Display is a device that hooks up to a computer or mobile device like an iPhone with Bluetooth or USB. It has a line of rectangles on it with a set of 6 to 8 dots in each of the rectangles. Each rectangle is called a braille cell. This can have a letter, punctuation sign, or even a word. Most Braille Displays now a days have a Braille keyboard built in to them that allows the user to navigate the device it is connected to and you can also type in documents with it. There is a Braille Display that the American Printing House for the Blind or APH and the Orbit Research Group have developed called the Orbit Reader 20. It’s price is $450. It is the cheapest display on the market. Because of it’s price, it does a slow refresh rate. This means that when you move to the next line of text, it takes a small bit of time to bring that line out, about a second or just a bit more at most. All the other displays on the market will refresh the links as soon as you press the key to advance the line. But, these can cost from $1300 to $4000. I’m not expecting or really wanting anyone to shell out that much money though. The reason I am unable to purchase even the $450 Orbit Reader 20 is because I am needing to take care of myself and my wife and our medical payments as well as bills and food. I am writing an autobiography and have had to stop because of the speech issues mentioned above. I’m also a musician and have had to stop producing with the software on my computer for the same reasons. So, if anyone would be willing to help me to purchase a Braille Display so that I can continue to use my technology effectively daily like I used to, I would be forever grateful. Thank you all for reading and allowing me to continue my work.
