50 days to $5500 for St. James

Donation protected

Sometime before 1872, the desire to establish an Episcopal Community in Brookhaven was born.  The Rev. Charles Douglas held services in the home of Charles Sweezey which stood on the northeast corner of Beaver Dam and Fireplace Neck Road.  After appealing to Bishop Abram Littlejohn, St. James was established as a congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island in 1873.  The church was built in 1874.  St. James is a fixture in the Hamlet of Brookhaven.  As we celebrate our 145th Anniversary, the present day St. James congregation is a small, committed, loving, diverse one.  Our members come from the immediate area and from neighboring communities to experience worship and to be inspired to be Christ's presence in the world.  We are dealing with the same challenges that many other congregations and institutions have.  We are hopeful that you will make a contribution to help us.  If we raise $5500, our Vicar, the Reverend Hickman Alexandre, will take the plunge and do the Shark Dive at our event at the Long Island Aquarium on 29 July.  For more information about this event click on this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/384491675364592/
