Caroline’s Angels

Hello everyone. First off, I want to start by sending my love, prayers and peace to Caroline’s family, friends, Oceanair family, church family and everyone who knew her. The news of this senseless tragedy has shocked us all. Some of you know me and some do not. My name is Heather Shaffer and I have known Caroline (aka Auntie C or Ms. Hendrix) for over 20 years. My aunt, Paula LaBarge, and my mother, Marilee Woolwine-Craig, have worked side by side with her every day for over two decades. She loved being a teacher and adored each and every one of her students as if they were her own. She and my aunt had an unbreakable bond; they were more like sisters and best friends rather than co-workers. She immediately became a vital member of our family from the beginning. From attending school functions to being at the birth of my cousin to speaking at my grandfather’s funeral. I consider this wonderful, kind, caring, compassionate, spontaneous, beautiful and kind-hearted woman to be my aunt. We may not be blood related but she was a member of my family. And it didn’t stop her from doing all of the generous and selfless acts that she did for us and countless other people whose paths she crossed. I have started this page in honor of Caroline and all the good she provided for the community. My goal is to raise enough money for her mom to cover all expenses for the memorial services and any traveling costs it took to get here. She had a lot of life left in her and the family should not have to bare the financial burden of having to say goodbye so soon. Anything left over will be evenly distributed between Talbot Park Baptist Church, where she regularly attended services and donated her time, and a charity of their choosing. I will never forget the first time she invited me to serve at the soup kitchen with her. Riding around the city in a box truck giving food to the homeless community and less fortunate families, including children. What a life changing experience. She did anything and everything she could to help spread love and joy everywhere. I have many joyous and wonderful memories of her that will forever bring a smile to my face. I am beyond thankful that I had a chance to know her and I’m sure many of you would agree. So to all of her family, friends, past and present students, school members, church members and anyone reading this: my love and prayers go out to you. Her legacy will live on through us all. Please help her family with this great injustice they are facing and let’s acknowledge that her death is not her end. Her memory will carry on in each and every one of our hearts. Thank you to everyone who is able to donate.
