I’m starting this campaign on behalf of my best friends 10 year old daughter, Meadow. At just 25 days old Meadow was diagnosed Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Cystic Fibrosis is disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body. Meadow has been treated at Pediatrics Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Center at University Hospital since her diagnosis. There is no cure for CF at this time and all we can do is help Meadow manage her symptoms. At the beginning of 2017 Meadows blood work started to concern doctors, so began a number of tests and scans to figure out what was going on in Meadows body. Doctors learned that Meadows liver was showing signs of CF related liver disease and her spleen was enlarged. With medication, the doctors were hoping that they could reverse the damage or at best slow the progression. This method proved to be unsuccessful. At the beginning of November 2017 Meadow was sent to have a Fibro Scan done to see the progression of the damage. The doctors told Meadows mother that she has stage 3/4 Fibrosis of the Liver. There are 4 stages of Fibrosis before it turns into Cirrhosis of the liver which is a serious heath concern. Meadow is a unique CF patient, in that her lungs are extremely healthy and a side from her recent liver complication she’s done extremely well in fighting her disease.Meadows liver has shown rapid progression and her lungs have remained healthy. Although her PFT’s (pulmonary function test) have declined from her normal 121% to around 114%, the main focus at this point is her liver. On 12/1/17 the doctors told Meadows parents there was nothing more that they could do for Meadow at her current GI and CF clinics for her liver progression. The doctors made a referral to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan as Meadow now needs a Liver Specialist. The purpose of this is to get Meadow evaluated for a liver transplant and to help slow down progression of the damage. Meadows parents were told it could take several months to get an appointment. On 12/8/17, Mount Sinai called Meadows mother and informed her that her appointment would be on January 5th. Of course she took the appointment because she didn’t want to risk having to wait months and Meadow possibly getting sicker. This is were I need everyone’s help....traveling to Manhattan at this time of year is financially difficult due to the holidays. Between gas, tolls, parking, hotels etc. they are needing a little help. They attempted to get into the Ronald McDonald house but Mount Sinai isn’t in their network. We know with the holidays this may be hard but we just ask that you share and donate if you are able. We would like to make sure Meadow is here with her family for many more holidays to come.If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me and I’ll be happy to answer them. On behalf of Meadow, her parents and siblings thank you for reading her story, sharing and helping in any capacity.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared and liked Meadow’s campaign! This campaign has helped lighten the load for Meadows parents tremendously. The outpouring of kindness and love has truly touched their family. Everything is in motion for Meadow’s first trip, the rooms have been booked, schedules rearranged, and now the countdown begins. Please continue to show our girl support and spread the word of her story. She has a long road ahead of her but we will all get her through this. We hope you all had a Merry Christmas! Thank you again!

I want to give a update on Meadows current health after the campaign was made. This morning (12/15/17)Meadow woke up with her nose hurting and a wet junky cough. I called her CF doctor and was informed that the grew a bacteria from her throat culture that was done last week. They didn't want to concern us so they wanted to wait to see if she started to show signs of sickness. She has and now we are risking her liver to take care of her lungs by putting her on a antibiotic for the next 2 weeks. We are waiting to see a endocrinologist as well, they think she's going to need insulin shots at night as they fear she now is going through the change of having Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes. CFRD has been one of my biggest worries for the last 7 years or so. Meadow is a tough girl, she will still come out with a smile on her face and her sassy attitude like always. Just another obstacle she will overcome an fit it into her normal daily routine! Still a lot of negative news before the holidays.. However she wore her Just Breathe CF Warrior shirt to school today with a mask on her face(not sure if she wore it all day) she wasn't letting her junky cough stop her from going to school as school is one of her favorite places! I ask from the bottom of my heart, please share this campaign and donate if possible! I will say it with my last breath "It takes a village to raise a child, and I'm so thankful you all are apart of our village!" Thank you~ Doris&Sam

From Meadows mother Doris Wilkins-Wilt

I'm beyond grateful for every donation and every share. We are truly floored at the generosity from family friends and complete strangers. We will leave this up for a while, as you know this will be the 1st of many trips to Manhattan, Meadow has a account at Citizens Bank, we will be putting all money donated into that account for future appointments as well. All donations will be only used to get her to and from Mount Sinai and if needed to either Boston Children's or Philadelphia Children's Hospitals if she is ever in need of their services too, it will be used for gas, tolls and/or lodging. Much love to all, and a huge thank you! Meadow was floored when she came home today, she wants to thank everyone as well!
