4 The Love Of Luke

#4TheLoveOfLuke

Our nephew Luke went back to the doctors on Monday, October 2 after dealing with what everyone believed was pneumonia for 2 weeks.  Blood samples were taken and on the drive home, Scott and Christi received a call from the doctor to turn around and get to the hospital right away.  He was given more tests and diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL).  He had his first 5-hour chemotherapy treatment on that Thursday, October 5… his 12th birthday.  He spent his birthday weekend in the hospital throwing up with zero energy, zero appetite and dreading his next round of chemo.  This has been a shock to the whole family.  Scott, Christi, Cole and Luke especially are just trying to get their heads wrapped around this – it all happened so fast.

Thankfully, T-ALL is curable, and he will beat it.  He has a rarer form of Leukemia which progresses more rapidly than others, thus it needs to be treated more aggressively.  It is going to be a lengthy battle, but with strength, love and faith, he will win.

Luke is an active athlete.  On his baseball team, he is a slugger and pitches one of the hardest thrown balls out there at his age, and he’s a monster on the basketball court!  Luke has always been a force to be reckoned with (as he should be considering his love of all things Star Wars).  His life has changed in an instant, but being such a tough kid, he is ready to fight!! Luke is currently receiving this chemotherapy every Thursday and has so far lost 13 pounds and his body is being sapped of energy.

While the full course of his treatment is unknown, the doctors do expect it to last around 3 years.  Scott, Christi, Luke and Cole are going to have their hands full with treatments, medical tests, hospitals, doctors, insurance and tutors along with everything else!  We are asking for donations to help alleviate everyday financial stresses so they can focus on healing and their faith.  All money donated will be used to pay for any extra medical expenses not covered by insurance and to help with daily living expenses.

Please keep Luke in your prayers along with the rest of the Garcia family.  We are all so very grateful for all your prayers, thoughts, and generous donations.  Let’s help restore the force in Luke!!!
