Help India Beat Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Last summer, India went back to her little village in northern Sweden with her dog Molly for a 2 week visit in August from Paris, only to find herself diagnosed with breast cancer in Sweden en-route during her return. From then on she has faced sudden and related whirlwinds of subsequent events, and she needs our help.

Before the immediate surgery to remove the tumor, and while staying in a local hotel and managing family situations at the same time, she was told she would only need 5-6 weeks radiation as post-operative treatment. At that time, already that seemed like a long period to be away from her home and life in Paris.

In Paris, India had waiting for her upon her return:
*a pending job offer to teach human rights
*making plans to move in with a partner
* her apartment and belongings
*important pro bono groundbreaking legal projects she oversaw and brainstormed
*urgent personal legal matters to tend to
*AND her long-time dream to transition into making and selling her art, writing and jewelry in Paris.

However, while she was still in the hospital bed in Sweden post-surgery, the surgeon informed her that the cancer had been found during surgery to have spread beyond the breast and into her sentinel and axillary lymph nodes, and that she would need, in addition the the treatment of radiation, 5 months of chemotherapy to start, as well as 5-10 years of pills/injections (hormone blockers as her breast cancer is hormone receptive) and monitoring.

India's home, with her dreams and foundations to realize them, is Paris, and her medical team in Sweden is willing to help her transition her care to Paris, but this takes funds, effort, time and support.

Since she has in the past few years been working hard as a dedicated and almost solely pro-bono human rights lawyer (expert in indigenous rights and additionally focused on root causes of domestic violence faced by immigrant women), while also lawyering her own cases and situations as an immigrant victim herself abroad (in turn rendered controversial for her work to speak out and in restorative methods), and doing the majority her work and advocacy out of her own pocket while becoming undiagnosably - until now! - increasing ill, India finds herself now in a financial and circumstantial bind with her sudden diagnosed medical situation and surrounding circumstances, as she also is not eligible for sick benefits or government assistance.

India feels stranded and scared for her future; she wants, and has wanted this entire time, to get back to Paris to continue with the life she was on track with and for, to both pursue her opportunities of paying work in the ways she can and to be home, settled and relaxed in familiarity, surrounded by more extensive urban resources for her cancer needs, and forward-moving in her life, whole health and love.

India is an independent soul, and it is NOT easy for her to ask for help, but several of us have offered to rally her communities to help out!

As she put it: "Breast cancer patients on treatments continue living their normal lives, but in this situation I'm stuck in a place I don't live and it's circumstantial, not medical. I am going to need everyone's help getting back, I can't do it alone. I'm used to being able to do everything alone, but I'm lost needing help gah!"

Your donation can help India get herself back to her home in Paris and safely transitioned there with her ongoing medical needs. Examples of costs to get there and back on her feet and continuing healing are:

* Translation of medical records in Sweden so that they can be sent to Paris for review prior and a return thus planned accordingly
*Application fee for the Paris-based medical review and resulting ongoing treatment plan and care fees proposal
*Fertility protection injections during chemotherapy
*Genetic and blood tests not covered that aid in treatment decisions and analyses, including assessment of cancer status, potential for metabolizing (or not) of treatments including hormone blockers, assessment and monitoring of hormone levels, monitoring of treatment side effects (such as bone density/loss, uterine wall thickening, and other systems balance such as thyroid)
*Costs to get India, her dog, and their things that are in Sweden from these months of medical urgency back to their home in Paris
*Out-of-pocket medical expenses once in Paris in the months following return, especially while transitioning between national health care systems, for example: remaining treatments, both cancer- and treatment side-effects-related exams and scans and tests, check ups, monitoring of side effects of prescribed long term hormone blockers medicine, fertility checks and needs, providing of the long-term hormone blockers anti-cancer medicine, lymphedema aid- drainage massage, compression sleeves, natural remedies such as herbs, nutrition, essential oils, movement and manual body work, any urgent, sudden or ongoing care related to serious side effects of chemotherapy, radiation or hormone blockers
*Emergencies and travel care coverage both en-route and for times when she is able to travel starting up work again
*Trauma counseling and other reparative healing
*Additional living costs and backlogged living costs from being unable to gainfully work during treatments in the town she is in in Sweden and receiving no government assistance or any other insurance aid
*Sourcing key support and resources such as long-term financial and life security planning, especially in light of her cancer
