Billy’s marathon run for MND

Want to join me in making a difference? On 13th October 2019, I'll be running the Melbourne Marathon to raise money to benefit Motor Neurone Disease Victoria. Any donation will help make an impact.
The reason I chose to fundraise for MND is that recently I lost someone close to me to the illness. Eric was a primary school friend of my Dad's, who became an inspirational role model to me, with the way he fought this dreadful disease. The photo shows him smiling, which is how he was throughout his whole illness. He was one of the genuinely most happy people I have ever met and brought smiles to those he was with.
He was also incredibly mentally strong, refusing to give in to his illness or to give up his love of life. Eric fought MND for 9 years, including the last four in a hospice (where most patients only last a few months).
The lesson I learned from Eric is that life is 'mind over matter' and that no matter how weak or dysfunctional your body may be, if you have a strong mind you can do anything. I saw this first hand through his fight and heard it through his words.
I will be running this marathon in honour of him - he was very fit as a young man - and I hope to continue his legacy and spread his message of 'never give up'.

They provide information on the disease process, managing the disease, support services, treatment, research and grief and loss. MND Victoria also provides training and information for service providers and health professionals.
Their support made Eric's last years more comfortable and provided invaluable help to his family and friends.
