Brain Surgery For Paul Schaefer

Donation protected

Since being diagnosed in Spring of 2017 with a large brain tumor, Paul has undergone proton radiation and 8 months of intense chemotherapy with very little improvement. He was told by his medical team in Poland to simply "wait and see what happens".  According to them, his tumor was inoperable and there were no further treatments available.

We felt discouraged. Then we found hope.

By chance Paul stumbled across a Professor named Dr. Duffau  located in Montpellier (France) who has an impressive track record operating on otherwise classified inoperable brain tumors. Paul and his family went to France for a consultation on August 21st, 2018. They were elated to hear that Dr Duffau is confident he can extract a large portion of his tumor and give Paul back his life with his wife and 2 young daughters.

At the time of diagnosis, Paul and Sylwia had saved money to buy a house, but now that Paul has not worked since Spring of 2017 and Sylwia is on maternity leave, their savings have been depleted.

Being so far away from Paul during this time has been incredibly difficult. Not being there to cook him his favorite meals while he was in the hospital or taking him out for a beer to get his mind off the fact he is fighting for his life has been heartbreaking. This is what this fundraiser is all about. We CAN do something and we so appreciate your thoughts being with Paul and his family during this time.

-The date of the surgery is set for November 12, 2018.

-The cost of the surgery is  €20,000  ($30,000 Canadian approx.)

-Estimated cost of flights, accommodations, initial post surgery care/rehabilitation/medication will be at least €6,500 ($10,000 Canadian approx) and most likely will be much more.

Thanks to loved ones around the world, we are getting his story out there and we are hopeful to meet our financial goal of a minimum of $40,000 (Canadian) €26,500.

If you have a moment, we invite you to watch the short video below so you can  get to know Paul and his story.

"If you can help, we thank you.  Any amount is incredibly appreciated and my family is grateful. Even If you can't contribute today, we thank you for listening to my story and keep me in your thoughts."

"I'm a fighter and I will beat this thing!"
