My daughter, Samantha, was recently (January 28, 2019) attacked by her boyfriend.  She had received a phone call at work about his making some strange phone calls and had gone home to check on him.  Within minutes of entering the apartment, he punched her in the back of the head and then proceeded to stab her with a butcher knife 5 times - 4 to the back and one to the upper chest/shoulder area.  He also bit off her ear so severely that it was hanging on only by the lower lobe.

She spent nearly a week in the hospital due to the severe and deep stab wounds and also had to deal with nicks to her lungs, blood transfusions, a surgical procedure by a plastic surgeon to reattach the ear, and has suffered a partial loss of function to her left arm due to a nerve bundle being severed in the attack.   There is nothing that can be done for the bundle other than physical therapy/occupational therapy and they are unsure at this time what percentage of loss of function will be permanent.

She will require an additional surgery by the plastic surgeon to further return the ear to a normal appearance and will require up to 6 months of physical therapy/occupational therapy.  She is unable to work and we have no idea when she will be able to return to work due to her inability to use her left arm fully at this time.

She’s a single mom who now faces loss of income; has a $700+ bill with her apartments for hazmat cleanup, not to mention eviction fees that she has incurred due to no fault of her own, moving expenses and storage expenses to store her things; serious medical bills that she has already incurred;  serious medical bills for her future treatment; and she will need to undergo counseling to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy.

Any help provided would be greatly appreciated!

Samantha had her follow-up appointment with Dr. Linnell's assistant today to get her cast removed finally! She starts physical therapy twice a week starting next Monday.

Also, on Wednesday she had a follow-up appointment with Dr. DeSplinter for her ear surgery she had two weeks ago to further shape the ear. Right now, it's hard to say if he's done with the ear, so he will need to see her in another month after its had a chance to further heal to reassess whether he will need to do additional work on the top of her ear or not.

Samantha had her 2nd ear reconstruction surgery today with Dr. DeSplinter. It went well. They didn't need to do a skin graft from the leg like they had originally thought and was able to use her scalp skin. She will follow-up again with him on the 20th and Dr. Linnell on the 22nd and start her physical therapy on the 25th.

Yesterday Samantha saw the trauma team to get a follow-up x-ray for her fluid accumulation in her lung cavity. There was a little bit more on the right side than when she discharged last week, but they still aren't too worried about it.

Today, she saw Dr. Linnell for follow-up to her shoulder nerve replacement and tendon replacement for her wrist. They took the stitches and staples out and she got a new cast put back on for the wrist that doesn't include her elbow this time. The cast will stay on until her next appointment on March 22nd and then she will start 6-9 months of physical therapy for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand.

Samantha got to discharge from the hospital today. There is small amounts of fluid build-up in both lung cavities, but they aren't too concerned with it at this point. She does go back into the ER next Monday to get another chest x-ray to make sure that it isn't building up at a rate that her body cannot handle with natural absorption. Also, since she was still in the hospital today, we had to reschedule her follow-up appointment with Dr. Linnell for Tuesday for follow-up with her shoulder and wrist surgeries. She is scheduled for the final reconstructive surgery with her plastic surgeon for the ear on March 7th.
