Find My Birthright Trip

I need your help to make my dream a reality!!

I discovered scientific evidence of my Jewish heritage a few years ago, and I have been wanting/needing to take a trip to Italy to dig up family records ever since. I also want to go to Israel very badly, but am too old for Taglit Birthright, and it can be a very expensive trip! The plan is pretty simple, and accomplishes both goals at once: fly to Israel, upon landing in Tel Aviv, board a plane for Naples; after a week in Gaeta, Italy, fly back to Israel for two weeks of visiting, sightseeing, and photography. Airfare from Israel to Italy is much cheaper than from here, so that is why I've determined to do it this way.

I have friends I can possibly stay with here and there in Israel, but nowhere in Gaeta, Italy. Airfare is one thing, of course, but there is also lodging, transportation, food, souvenirs for friends and family, records fees in Gaeta....

I will be putting money into this as well, but any offset from your generosity would be so much appreciated. Think of it this way: in donating, you are doing a great deed by helping a man connect with his ancestors! I'll walk the streets my ancestors walked, see the sights they saw! Any gift, no matter how small, would be so gracious. If you don't know me, ask those who do whether or not I am a giving person myself. This would also be a great educational experience as well, as I have never been out of the country before.

As well as my sincerest gratitude, I have assembled a reward tree. Think of it as the cherry on top of the I'm-so-glad-I-just-did-something-awesome-for-such-a-great-guy Sunday! Thank you in advance. Thank you so much for your generosity! Todah rabah! Muchas gracias! Merci beaucoup! Molto grazie!

why did I call this my "Birthright Trip?" Taglit Birthright is an organization that sends jewish youths between 18-28 to Israel. I am too old for this program, and there are no organizations for "old farts" like me. Why did I call it "Find" my birthright? It is my hope that I will be able to source documentation of my ancestors in Italy, to strengthen the connection to my predecessors for myself and my children. What greater gift than to know from whence one has come?

One of the commandments is to write a Torah scroll. Due to the special training involved, the majority cannot literally write one. The mitzvah can be completed, however, by sponsoring a line of Torah. In the same way, contributing to a person reaching his goal is a mitzvah of achieving the goal for yourself. Come to Israel with me by contributing, even just $18! :)
