ASK THE GYNAECOLOGIST AFRICAN WOMEN’S HEALTH PROJECT

Peace to all men and women of goodwill. We hope this message meets you in good health.

Ask the Gynecologists (ATG) African Women’s Health Project was birthed following a series of worrying and disturbing statistics stemming from the maternal population in Sub Saharan African countries. It started initially as a Facebook group with the sole aim of providing applicable answers to maternal health issues in late November 2015. Within a very short period of time —less than two weeks of inception— membership of the group dramatically grew. Consequently, the positive response spurred us to expand our reach and dreams beyond social media.

Our ultimate goal was to use education, awareness, positive campaigns and proactive participation to change the status quo in maternal health, and in some way, impact the alarmingly high rate of maternal morbidity and mortality in Africa. After several deliberations and intense brainstorming, the group decided to broaden its horizons. Since inception, the group has and continues to engage in daily discussions, teachings, as well as provide virtual consultations on maternal health issues and wellness.

Our Objectives are:

Provide a platform for education of women on reproductive health
Empower women with tools to take charge of their health
Promote gender equality, equity and justice
Currently, ATG has more than twenty-eight thousand plus committed members and within a short timeframe has become a household name in some parts of Africa and the world, namely Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, USA, UK, Netherlands, South African to mention just few. We are so delighted to have made a positive impact as evidenced by the numerous testimonies from our members. Today, we are motivated by this notion: we are the change we have been waiting for, and we will collectively work towards reducing the morbidity and mortality burden in Africa.

Our Team, comprised of erudite Medical doctors, trained in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Maternal Health work tirelessly every day to improve user experience and continuously engage our members to imbibe evidence-based information. We are still evolving and firmly believe that through our humble contribution to women’s’ health in Africa today we can liberate people from the shackles of their minds, and in turn contribute to a positive economic inspired daily and encouraged to do more for our target population.

We however know we cannot do this alone and we humbly wish to seek your support and donation to enable us achieve our objectives. We seek help to enable us bring our mission and vision to fruition. We currently developed a website, please check ( www.askthegynaedoctor.com)

We also hope and plan to organize

·  Conferences dwelling on common women’s health issues

·  Health Fair

·  Open Women’s Health Education Seminar

We see a dream of disease FREE Africa especially amongst the women population. Our dream is to see an Africa where women are empowered and equipped with basic knowledge of their health, especially reproductive health and continuously strive to improve and reduce maternal mortality and morbidity globally. We welcome constructive advice, suggestions and support towards achieving and actualizing this dream.
We firmly believe we can change our communities by positively impacting our female population.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Dr. Babajide Alalade, MBBS, DRCOG, DFSRH, MPH Indiana, FRSPH, RICR

ASK THE GYNAECOLOGIST AFRICAN WOMEN’S HEALTH PROJECT

Ask the Gynecologists (ATG) African Women’s Health Project was birthed following a series of worrying and disturbing statistics stemming from the maternal population in Sub Saharan African countries.

We wish to applaud and thank all our donors and supporters. We are gradually and steadily making strides and progress.
We recently opened a corporate Bank Account in Nigeria to enable our members support our proposed project. For the records, Nigerians both at home and in diaspora make up the bulk part of the group.

African Women’s’ Health Project 2016

Update
We are so thankful and grateful for the continued support and donations toward this project.
Ask The Gynecologist (ATG) is changing lives daily. We wish and crave to do more. We want to reach the unreachable, the underserved, the less privileged
ATG is aware that globally women and girls have a high risk of illness, injury, and death during pregnancy or childbirth.
Regrettably, majority of these morbidities and deaths are preventable.
To put a number to it, globally, 800 women die every day due to largely preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth – which amounted to an estimated 289,000 maternal deaths in 2010.
Approximately 47,000 maternal deaths worldwide are due to unsafe abortion. Additionally, for every woman who dies in childbirth, about 20 more suffer injury, infection, or disease – about 10 million women each year. Almost all (99 percent) of the world’s maternal deaths and injuries occur in developing countries.
Globally, but specifically young women and girls are at heightened risk of complications and death during pregnancy and childbirth.
These complications are the leading cause of death among girls 15-19 in low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria and other sub Saharan African countries .
Child marriage and taboos on adolescent sexuality contribute to teen pregnancies by denying girls the power, information, and tools to postpone childbearing
The alarming statistics in maternal health is worrisome and this is despite numerous global commitments to address issues that fuel this risk, most times health systems often do not prioritize maternal health and violations of women’s rights are common. This is our reality in maternal health.
From inception Ask the Gynecologist (ATG) realized that the best way to cause change is to change the grassroots. This realization was the template and basis of the AfricanWomen’s’ Health Project 2016. ATG wishes to take the fight to motherland one woman at a time.
ATG through it women’s Health Project wants to change the narration and status quo. We firmly believe and affirm that women and girls must have access to comprehensive maternal health care that includes:
· Family planning
· Essential medicines
· Skilled, rights-based, and respectful maternity care
· HIV prevention and treatment; and
· Safe voluntary abortion services.
In order to achieve our goals, we will need help and support. We cannot do this alone. We cannot effect the change we want in Maternal Health alone, we need your help, collaboration, donation and promotion.
ATG plans to be on ground to deliver services to the unreachable, the underserved and the less privileged. So far, we have recorded monumental successes.
Now majority of our Forty five thousand members can comfortably calculate their menstrual cycle days, ovulation and fertile periods. Majority know their bodies and signs more than before. THIS IS CHANGE. THIS IS PROGRESS WE CRAVE FOR.
We want the same for all women.. Join our movement. Please consider supporting this project as you deem fit.

We believe we are the well-equipped to actualize this humongous dream. YES WE CAN. But, we will fool ourselves, if we think it’s gonna happen by wishful thinking! Every day, the board of our group work tirelessly, develop contents, brainstorm on ways to serve our women better!
We need all hands on deck! We need your support, your donations, your promotion, your goodwill, your collaboration, your skill set!

What a tremendous fund drive campaign we have had.
Every passing day, with every single testimony, every great news of successful conception, every awesome news of cured disease, we become so energized and determined to pursue our passion and spread the love beyond limits.
Maternal Health globally will never be the same. We are taking over with a bang. We are changing lives. We simply care and want to see CHANGE in Maternal Health in the world especially Africa.
