Let's make Casa Lalelelor blossom!

Bună, I am Suzanne Vonk from the Netherlands. I am a social worker in Rotterdam and long-distance cyclist. In the summer of 2011 I cycled from Rotterdam to Costuleni, a small rural community in East-Romania, to raise money to open an activity centre for the community. From June 2016 I will be returning to the village to live and work there for 11 months.
WHY:
In this part of Romania there is a lot of poverty and because of that, many people miss opportunities in life. Children drop out of school early, don't have a lot of self-esteem and families remain stuck in this cycle of poverty for generations. I believe that everybody deserves chances in life and I want to help to develop talents and create chances for a better future.
WHERE:
I will be working for Sansa, a Dutch foundation and Pro Comunitate, the local Community Based Organisation in Costuleni. Together we opened an activity centre for children in 2013 and called it Casa Lalelelor, house of the tulips. This centre will be my workplace during my time in Costuleni.
WHAT:
Together with the local school and community I intend to organise more activities in Casa Lalelelor designed to help children, youngsters and adults to develop their talents and give them better prospects. E.g. after school activities, English lessons, home work classes. Also I will support local initiatives, train people and help to make the local organisation more efficient and professional. By the end of the year Casa Lalelelor and the local organisation will be a more solid part of the community.
COSTS:
I have calculated that the cost of activities, materials, maintenance of the building and terrain, trainings and my costs of living will be around € 1340,= a month in total €14.700,= Partly this will be paid by Sansa. For the remaining costs (€ 7.700,=) I am seeking sponsors.
