Heidi's road to recovery
Heidi was diagnosed with a tumor in her brain early Sunday morning (09/03/17). She has been suffering from severe neck pain and migraines for 3 moths but was told it was whiplash and to do physical therapy. While visiting family in Pocatello from Twin Falls her family immediately knew something was wrong. Especially her younger sister Katrina who was the one who brought her to the ER at 3am. After an MRI and a Catscan a tumor was revealed in her Cerebellum as well as CSF fluid being blocked in her 4th Ventricle causing hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). This caused inflammation and swelling thus resulting in decreased motor, neurological function and extreme pressure spikes in pain and headaches. Immediately the doctors made plans to send her to the University of Utah for surgery by life flight. However she ended up riding ground ambulance due to cost with her mother Sally to Utah followed by her family. Currently her two daughters LoAve and Kenisha, grandchildren Boston, Aurora, and Avelyn, niece Kylee, father Richard, step mother Georgia, mother Sally, and sister Katrina who are all staying in hotels. they are by her side through this difficult journey. Once in Utah an angiogram was preformed to better reveal the problem. Surgery was scheduled at 7 am Sunday only to be postponed due to another trauma until 4 pm. After 5 hours of surgery. Heidi woke up in shivering pain a 10/10 pain in a fetal position. when her sister arrived to the room she commanded pain meds warm blankets and constant aid to immediately and effectively decrease her pain and symptoms. Katrina is a perioperative skilled in critical and acute care. She is advocating for her sister to get the pain under control, and the proper resources to be executed in a timely and efficient manor to care for her Big sister. The doctors revealed a full resection of the tumor with good margins and no complications during the brain surgery. She had a good night however the pain is returning as expected by the doctors. Heidi along with her family are very optimistic and know that the pain she is experiencing right now is the beginning of a long road to recovery! Heidi and her family will be accruing tons of costs and she will need continued rehab and care to heal properly. We are asking for donations thoughts and prayers of healing during this difficult time. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.+ Read More
Journey for Heidi in Utah. She had a CT scan and her brain looks amazing. The neurosurgeon was so impressed by her progress. He said she recovered in 1/5th of the time a normal patient would. She had us laughing and the doctor dumbfounded. She even did a big yoga pose on one foot eyes closed and twisted like a pretzel standing up. The downside today was the general surgeon oncologist at the Huntsman doesn’t want to take the tumor out of the colon. Heidi has Mets in her lung and they are assuming that is from the colon tumor. They want to do chemo starting on Monday. She is scheduled to have her port in tomorrow. They want to see if they can shrink the colon tumor and lung tumor (which is only 1cm vs the 8cm in the colon) in order to be a good candidate to even attempt to remove the colon tumor. We are having a hard time wrapping our brains around this. My questions to them was: If you go get your oil changed flush the system etc. you don’t leave the dirty filter in the car to muck up the new oil right? Why would they leave in a tumor that they are trying to get rid of with chemo radiation etc. and help prevent from spreading to other areas only to leave it in to wait and see. Maybe I’m looking at this the wrong way but we are talking about my sister! We are talking about my moms daughter, we are talking about my nieces and nephews mother/grandmother. I want them to take out the damn tumor! I will say Heidi and my family have God with us on this journey. I know he is in control. But this Cancer stuff sucks! I have to know with my faith that all of this will be revealed in Gods time. We are asking for prayers for the shrinking of the tumors and guidance for these doctors to make the most accurate decisions so Heidi can have a longer good quality of life with the best outcome. My sister is not working because of everything that is going on. The bills are coming faster than we can pay. She has insurance for now but not sure how long that will keep paying and I know it doesn’t pay it all. My sister doesn’t even have a car. At this point we pick her up in Twin take her to salt lake and drive her back to Twin before we come home to Pocatello. We want to be their to support her. Please keep her in your prAyers and please if you can even spare $5 dollars to help with this great financial need! We need Heidi in our lives and we need her to be able to get the best possible treatments without her having to worry about money for a house payment. Food and gas etc... I have posted a link below for her go fund me account. This has helped her to pay but there is so much coming in. If you can spare even 5 dollars please donate to our loving sister, daughter mother and grandmother. Also we have given Heidi carpet. She doesn’t have a way to install it. If you know anyone who would like to install this in TwinFalls let us know. If you have a mechanic in Twin that can fix her car that would be great as well! Anything can help at this point. Again thank you for all your love and support and also the money to which has already been donated! That helped her a great deal! Thank you to everyone and we love you!
Update: Heidi was just barely transferred to the NACU. It's like medical floor only for neurological specialized. She is up and walking happy go lucky and happy to be walking around. The drain was removed and she is free from a bunch of cords. Pathology came back and the cells look like they are from a gastrointestinal region. Which means the cells are from the stomach and traveled to the brain developing a fast growing tumor. They do believe it is cancerous. Her scan came back and it was clean meaning wherever the cells originated from they are too small to see in a scan so she is scheduled for a colonoscopy tomorrow. We are so thankful we have found this before it grew. And we are thankful we are in this place to help her. We are also thankful to be close to the huntsman. We are continuing to pray it's just a small polyp and we can remove it and no further treatments will be needed. She is continuing to be in good spirits and thanks everyone for the continued prayers and support.
She is feeling much better today praise God! They did some adjustments to her medicines which have seemed to help. She is off oxygen and they are planning to turn off the EVD drain. This is taking off the fluid off her brain. They want to see how she does. She has an appetite and ate a whole breakfast. She is getting up and out of bed and pretty steady on her balance. We are just waiting for results from pathology which won't be until tomorrow or Friday. Thank you for all the continued prayers and support! We love you and continue to pray for support and healing and a great outcome.
