Remembering Chastity Bedonie

Chastity Ethelynn Bedonie, 38, passed from this life on Sunday, September 15, 2013 in Baltimore, MD. She was born August 20, 1975, in Tuba City, AZ, to Timothy and Hilda Greyeyes Bedonie. She was born into the Na'shashii (Enemy Bear) and born for the To'di'chii'nii (Bitter Water).
Chastity attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Farmington, NM. She obtained her Bachelors of Arts degree in Physics from Bryn Mawr College, and her juris doctor from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law. At the time of her passing she was an attorney at the U.S. Department of the Interior in the Office of the Secretary. Prior to her role at the department, she served on the staffs of former Rep. Brad Carson, D-Okla., the National Indian Gaming Commission, the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. She was a former treasurer of DC's Native American Bar Association and also a Morris K. Udall Native American Congressional Intern.
Chastity pursued a career dedicated to improving the lives of Native Americans. She was passionate about ensuring the government met its obligations to tribal nations and played a vital role in a number of important legislative issues. Thank you to the Department of the Interior and the DC office of the Navajo Nation for hosting the beautiful DC memorial. Chastity had a great sense of humor and loved her family dearly.
Chastity is survived by her mom Hilda, her sisters, Michelle, Sherrie, and Brielle, her brother, Theo, her nieces Megan, Madison, and ShÃnia, her nephews Ryan and Taimon, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Chastity was preceded in death by her dad, Timothy, her uncles Chee Jr. and Norman "Skipp" Bedonie, and her grandparents Chee Sr. and Ethel Bedonie.
The funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday September 27, 2013, at the Oasis 1601 N. Dustin, Farmington, NM. Internment will follow at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main Street, Farmington, NM. Chastity is in the care of Desert View Funeral Home, North US Hwy 491, in Shiprock, 505-368-4607
