Help Eduardo Get His Wheelchair

Eduardo is a 6 years old boy who is diagnosed with Down syndrome. Anyone who knows him, knows how special this child is. Every time this beautiful soul enters a room, people can't help but to smile with joy. He loves listening to music and playing with his toys. He is fun, loving and kind. Currently, Eduardo lives with his single mother and older sister. Eduardo attends a public school 5 days a week. However, his participation in the classroom is very limited due to the lack of accessibility and insufficient accommodations within the school environment. He can not use the LAUSD school bus because he does not have the proper wheelchair to accommodate the vehicle. His mother has to walk 4 hours everyday to get him to and from school by foot. Eduardo is not verbal and can not walk. There is limited funding and insurance is not willing to pay for his wheelchair. With the proper equipment, Eduardo will have the ability to access the school bus and participate in classroom activities with peers. His quality of life will improve tremendously, as he will be able to learn and engage in more meaningful social interactions with others. In addition, Eduardo will have some sense of freedom and a greater level of independence. I personally know him, and care for this child very much.
