Son hit by car Travis DeHart

Donation protected

On Monday night (August 30th), our Son was involved in a traffic accident. He was the man (18 years old in June, and Man is still such a word to get used to) News reported being struck at Sunshine and Campbell in Springfield, Missouri.

Having just turned 18, even his previous state support in medical, relating to his developmental issues and autism as a minor have been in flux and in question.

Right now, he rests in ICU and has not regained consciousness. His primary challenge are ICP numbers (brain pressure from swelling) with a need for near constant sedation to keep those pressures low.

He has apparent minimal but positive responses to his friends (hand and toe movement) as well as  others in the room.

This has taken us by total shock and surprise, and we are struggling now to finish some safety and accessibility projects for his return home as well as meeting his coming needs for home schooling at least the first part of his last semester in High School.

The doctors keep comforting us and staff warn us of a long road ahead, which we are ready to take for our Son. We just hoping for a little help with a couple things.

Specific needs here are accessibility ramps into the front entrance to the home, accessibility in the bathroom for close care needs and return to independence, as well as a new bed and basic care supplies and health monitor.  Further interior modifications may be necessary here at the house, but we are awaiting more from medical staff to determine what forms that will best take for his benefit.

The ramp(s) themselves are an immediate need and one outside our ability at this point. A proper chair for Travis to have any mobility in the house with is also something we cannot handle ourselves and hope for help in meeting his needs for.

We have always tried to be the folks helping others, and asking for help for our boy doesn't come easy to either of us, but we just can't see any other way to meet needs which leave no choice but to be met as best we can manage.

We don't expect this to cover his needs, or costs, but any amount at this moment helps, and anything this contributes to offset the immediate costs will be appreciated more than words can properly express.
