Katie's Liver Fund
Hi friends and family! As some of you may know, but most do not, I have a rare condition known as Polycystic Liver Disease. This is a hereditary disease and my two girls, Elly and Zoe, have a strong chance of inheriting it from me. I was initially diagnosed with PLD in 2012 after the birth of my first child, Elly. My cysts started out small and few and at first were something the physicians weren't overly concerned with. Within the last year, however, they have grown exponentially and now are innumerable. Being short of stature at five foot nothing I am running out of room to house these pesky and painful cysts. Other complications that come with PLD are increasing liver size, decreased liver function, chronic fatigue, and shortness of breath. At this point my liver specialist has realized that my condition is something that he is not equipped to handle locally. He has referred me to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for liver resection or even possible Liver Transplant depending upon what the surgeon thinks is necessary. As you can imagine, travel expenses, time off work, and battling with insurance to cover out of network care will start to add up. If you could please keep our family in your prayers that would be greatly appreciated! If you find some extra pocket change lying around and wish to donate it would be put to good use! I am hoping to put this chapter of life behind me sooner than later so I can be a strong and healthy wife for my husband and mommy for my girls. ♥+ Read More
Hello friends and family! Once again, I want to thank everyone who has kept me and my family in their prayers! Yesterday I met with my gastroenterologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I was then referred to a Surgeon named Dr. Nagorney who specializes in surgical procedures with patient's who have Polycystic Liver Disease such as myself. After discussion with both the gastroenterologist and Dr. Nagorney it was decided that surgical intervention might be a good decision in my particular case. The entire left lobe of my liver is covered in cysts and will be removed. Dr. Nagorney believes this will help relieve many of my symptoms and decrease the overall mass of my liver by 60%. Your prayers are appreciated as we continue into the next phase of this journey!! I will provide more updates as to when my surgery will take place as that information becomes available. <3 Thank you all!!
I can't begin to tell all my family, friends, and co-workers how supported and blessed I am. I want to once again thank everyone who has donated and who are praying for me and my family. So many of you have offered to help watch my kiddos while I am away and your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated!! If nothing else, through hard times we find out how many wonderful people we truly have around us. In my previous post I mentioned that we were waiting on Insurance to make my visit to Mayo Clinic In-network. Our first request was denied. After jumping through more hoops and innumerable phone calls, my second request was approved!! Yay! God is good. So far the initial "consult" will be in-network but we need prayers that they will continue to approve everything else that the physicians and surgeons decide for my plan of care. I now have a set date for going to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. I will be going in for my first appointment on October 11th. Once again, thank you to everyone for joining me on this journey! I will continue to post updates as we go along! <3
Thank you to all who have donated, shared, and are keeping me and my family in your prayers! I truly am overwhelmed and thankful for all the love and support we have received. <3 Currently we are awaiting approval from our Insurance before we officially set up an appointment at Mayo Clinic. Please pray that they will approve our physician to be "In-Network" so that our burden of the costs will be less. Jumping through all the hoops can be stressful and time consuming but the support we have received has been an unbelievable blessing!!! Thank you all. I feel loved! <3
